It must be pretty damn good to be a better game than Ocarina of Time.

Best original game? Probably- I haven't played it yet, but what else is there.

I just finshed world 2 right now , this game is so beautiful and it has best 3D effect yet :]

Ocarina of Time was great, for its time. Without the nostalgia, I'm sure it still holds up as a good game, but probably not amazing.

I haven't played Mario Land yet.. but considering it literally has zero competition, yeah, it's probably the best. Looking forward to Mario Kart a lot too though.

Saying this is the best 3DS game isn't really putting up a stiff competition. It is a great game but we really need to wait for the 3DS library to evolve a little more with something more than mini-game games then we can talk.

It's the best 3DS game, whether or not it's better than the N64 games that have been remade for 3DS is a matter of opinion. I personally think it is, but I'm one of those people who doesn't think Ocarina is the second coming, so.

It seems short I will admit, I'm on World 5 in about an hour and a bit.

@Hizang: Apparently it's got some kind of "second quest" thing going where you play through remixed, and more challenging, versions of all the levels. Not sure how much playtime that will add though, haven't gotten my copy yet.

What are the alternatives?

I wouldn't even just call it just a second quest. Some of the levels are completely different, while some are just more challenging versions of the originals or with added things like shadow Mario chases. Basically, the game doubles in size after you beat World 8-Castle, and not the Super Mario Galaxy 1 "just beat every level with Luigi" kind of doubling in size either (though feel free to do that too).

I haven't played the game yet but it looks like it. While I'm waiting for 3D Land, I'm playing 3D Classics Kirby's Adventure, and it's fucking great. You should check it out.

From the three or so hours I have played I would say it is not only the best game made for the 3DS, but one of the best games of the year. It does seem to be pretty easy which is fine. i have only had problems getting two or three of the coins, I seem to get most of them on my first run through a level.

It looks so gorgeous and the gimmick of the system is used brilliantly in some of the overhead levels.

@MidgardDragon: That sounds good then, I've hit a rode block at the moment because I need a set amount of those star coins and I don't have enough.

Sounds like I'll finally be getting some play out of my 3DS then.

Yeah it's a real joy to play, if you have a remote interest in decent mario games pick this up because it's one of the best Nintendo have made.

It's heads and shoulders above everything the 3DS has to offer. In addition, it's my 3rd favorite Mario game (behind World and Galaxy 1). Also, it's one of the best games released this year, and in my opinion, the best.

Best original game? certainly, best game? Ocarina of Time 3D.

Ocarina was a continuous journey and an amazing one at that, the world is so huge and adventurous. Super Mario 3D Land is insanely fun, but in the end it's just another awesome Mario game. I guess the journey from being a kid to an adult and spending so much time in this world made me love Ocarina more than SM3DL.

Ocarina of time is proberly better, and thats comming from someone whos never owned a nintendo console or played a proper nintendo game cept super smash bros, but mario is definatly one of the best games on it, for me mario and ocarina are the only two games im going to bover owning at this point the rest of the games intrest me that little with whats on it right now.

Ah fair. As a person who was in love with that game as soon as I played it, I just can't put SM3DL above it. However, this game is fantastic in it's own right.

I think it's one of the best out of the lot so far, I'm really enjoying Ocarina of Time 3D, but Layton Vs Phoenix Wright is the one i'm most stoked for.

Best case to be made for owning a 3DS, absolutely.

@Captain_Felafel: I'd say that Super Mario 3D Land and Pushmo combined are worth owning a 3DS. Mario Kart 7 and Ocarina of Time 3D are fun also, but I definitely prefer the other two.

This games is amazing, I just started playing it a few days ago, I love it!

Forget the best 3ds game , it's easily one of the best Mario games . Dat's saying something , imo .

To resurrect this old topic, just bought this game today due to the 2012's 2011 award - and it is is amazing. I was really skeptical initially as I really don't care about Mario and am bored of the NSMB series, but this is the best Mario game I have played in a long time. I am blown away by it's great quality in all departments.

I'd say Tales of the Abyss is the best 3DS game.
