Didn't this happen with Super Mario Galaxy as well? Wasn't it ahead of Ocarina of Time for a while?

It will probably change. But so would OoTs if it didn't primarily include recent reviews.

Oh damn! If it stays above Ocarina of Time, that will be amazing. Hey, Ocarina of Time is still ahead on Metacritic, being the only game to have 99 while Mario Galaxy 2 is at 98.

OoT is unreachable on Metacritic. 22 Reviews, most of which are 100s.

Its certainly nearly impossible. But lets face it: If gamerankings and metacritics would have been around at the time of its release, it would look slightly different.
