I'm in the mid 700s right now but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to stick with it much further. The koopa chases and some of the dark side moons do not seem fun. The Darker Side does actually seem like a fun challenge though.

Somewhere in the 20s I think. Just didn't feel like continuing.

I got just over 500 so I could experience the endgame challenge that it unlocks. I didn’t get much further than that though, I wasn’t up for that kind of intense challenge, and I also have no desire to go back for any more moons. Something about collecting moons in each open environment wasn’t as enjoyable to me as playing through each handcrafted level in the Mario Galaxy games, especially when it comes to the little activities that are repeated across multiple kingdoms.

However many it took to see the credits plus a few dozen more (somewhere in the 200s I think?). I'll definitely keep poking at it, though I doubt very much I'm going to try for the maximum.

I refused to simply grind out coins just for a silly little thing at the end. Besides that, I got all of the unique ones.

Once I beat the Darker Side, so I was in the low 500's. Thought about going back, but at this point going back to an open Nintendo game would probably mean the Zelda DLC.

Probably just over 600. I beat Darker Side too but I was starting to get bored from the lack of difficulty in the rest of the game after beating it. I'll get back to finishing all the moons eventually but I started playing Zelda which is taking up most of my Switch time.

400 something? Around 450, if I remember correctly.

It was a lot of fun while it lasted but I didn't love it. I have fired it up a few times recently and every time I play it for five minutes and then all I can think about is doing something else.

I think it was around 640 or something. The game was fine; maybe I need to play it more to see what's truly great about it, but it was fine. Okay, I say 'fine' but I do think it was good, just not amazing to me. I think the best last Mario game is still the first Galaxy. I played up to the end of Darker Side of the Moon and quit. I had totally forgotten that you don't have a checkpoint in it, and died and went all the way back to the start of the stage. I said 'nope, I'm done.' I haven't played it since.

Just over 500 so I could do the end game stuff. A lot of the moons in the game felt like the blue coins in Sunshine and were about as satisfying to get. I enjoyed the game overall but would have liked more quality over quantity.

Stopped once I beat the Darker Side of the Moon level.

May go back at some point, but would more likely just start another playthrough once my son is older and play together a bit more.

@ntm: If you already collected 600 moons I doubt playing more will change your opinion. You have seen what the game is. I'm in the same boat, I really liked it but I also didn't feel the same pull to 100% it like I did with the galaxy games.

    880. I didn't see the point of buying my way to 999. I got all the actual ones in the game, that's what matters to me.

I got all the "actual" moons, then bought the difference to max out the meter. Guess that's 999, I can't remember anymore.

I also recently maxed out another notorious meter that gets into the 900's in another recent Nintendo blockbuster, because I'm insane.

    EDIT: 2^9 posts, yay!

    880. My plan was to get 999 and buy every piece of costume, but I quickly realised that the coin grinding for the last 119 moons and the skeleton costume was gonna take too long and not be fun at all.
