Super Metroid is the third game in the Metroid series and the only Metroid game to be released on the Super Nintendo. It has become widely revered for its gameplay, atmosphere, and environmental storytelling, and continues to inspire many action-adventure games.
Finale of Super Metroid. Going to try to explain this one without spoilers.
So you finally reach Tourian and watch as a enemies crumble to dust, having been drained of life by metroids. Hit up the save station and descend into the Mother Brain's lair. You finally reach the glass container and your fingers fly across the weapon select, jump, fire, angle up, angle down, and weapon cancel buttons.
Glass shatters. Super missile meets flesh. Until finally, the Mother Brain is defeated. You pat yourself on the back as the disembodied head falls to the floor.
Then it rises to reveal the horror you see in the picture and you get your ass handed to you by the Mother Brain, who uses a weapon you've never seen before.
Samus struggles to get up, Energy Tanks low and Reserve Tanks empty. The Mother Brain charges up what could be her final attack. It doesn't look good. Then, out of nowhere, [spoilers would go here had I written them]. "Nooo!" you yell at your TV while the screen turns black. You struggled through two damn games, and this is what happens. But what a way to go!
The music changes back to a triumphant theme song that makes you feel strong, just like your approach to the Wrecked Ship. And Samus sends the Mother Brain back to hell where it came from.
Pause. You pat yourself on the back again. But it's not over.
The familiar countdown music plays and you haul ass out of there, screen shaking as acid rises and explosions block your path. You try to Space Jump, Screw Attack, and Shinespark your way out. Will you save the Etecoons and Dachora? Will you survive at all?
Then, a pixelated but exciting cutscene, followed by the credits, and some more of that delicious Super Metroid music. Samus gives you a thumbs-up (possibly more if you moved quickly enough) and fires at the screen, which inverts her colours (possibly the inspiration for Metroid Prime's Phazon Suit?), and the game is over.
