Poll What do you usually call the Super Nintendo Entertainment System? (573 votes)

    S-N-E-S (by the letters) 14%
    Super N-E-S (word, letters) 3%
    Snes (as a word) 47%
    Super Nes (2 words) 1%
    Super Nintendo 35%
    Super Nintendo Entertainment System 0%
    Super Famicom (your accent) 0%
Supa Famikon (like in Japanese) 0%

Maybe you call it different things depending on the context or sentence. I guess I'm asking what have you called it the most.

I just say it as one word usually, Snes.

Either by the letters or Super Nintendo.

I never heard anyone say it as a word until I started coming to this website.

As a kid I would just call it 'Nintendo', but that was confusing since we also had a functioning NES and Game Boy too.

In speaking, Super Nintendo or snes depending on who I am speaking to and their relation to games. The more knowledgeable, just snes as a word. Otherwise I tend to specify.

Saying it as a single word is completely insane. "Sness" or "Super Ness" or "Snezz" or "Super Nezzz" is the wrongest wrong thing that ever wronged.

    Super N-E-S.

The first time I heard "Snes" said aloud was like briefly stepping into a nightmare, the world around me a horrifying mistake.

Snes, as a word. Probably due to not really having to say it out loud very much and mostly talking about it online, where it appeared generally as SNES or Snes.

I didn't get one until early/mid 2000's since I didn't have one as a child. I just called it the SNES, as a word, because it's the fastest way to say it.

Growing up I called the NES "The Nintendo" so if I would have had a SNES at the same time I most likely would have referred to it as "The Super Nintendo".

Super Nintendo as one word because it rolls off the tongue and is just one more syllable than the individual letters.

"Snes" as a word (it's pretty much all I recall hearing in the UK), though it has to be "Snes" not "Snez" (the latter just sounds weird). Supa Famicom if I'm referring specifically to the JP system or a JP release (it's slightly closer to Sūpā than how I would pronounce Super in any other context, mostly due to usually hearing it said by Japanese speakers).

Many moons ago, when I first started listening to the bombcast and heard them use the word "snes," I thought I was going insane and I had no clue what they were talking about. It took me a good long while to realize they were talking about the Super Nintendo (or Super N-E-S).

Like said above by others, I had never heard in thirty something years of my life someone just call it SNES (as one word) until Giant Bomb.

Since I had always called the NES "N-E-S" it only made sense to call the Super NES the same - just with super before it.

I can also tolerate S-N-E-S or Super Nintendo.

    Everything else is just madness.

As a kid, I called it the "Super Nintendo" and the NES was the "Nintendo." Nowadays, "Snes" is probably the most intuitive for me, but it also depends who I'm talking to (i.e. if they know what a Snes is.)

Saying it as a single word is completely insane. "Sness" or "Super Ness" or "Snezz" or "Super Nezzz" is the wrongest wrong thing that ever wronged.

I'm assuming you pronounce all acronyms then? G-I-Fs? J-P-Gs? A-W-O-L? What about the S-W-A-T team?

I don't understand this mindset unless you completely hate the existence of acronyms and only use initialisms.

At this point I usually say "sness" or "Super Nintendo" interchangeably. Really, as long as you don't do something insane like say "ESS-NESS" (which is a thing I'm pretty sure I heard during an episode of 8-4 Play) I'm fine with whatever.

I usually start with Super Nintendo so I know whoever I'm talking to know what I'm talking about, then I start saying "SNES" as a word. As a kid I said S-N-E-S, but when I became a teenager and found the emulator NESticle, saying N-E-S-ticle just didn't work, so I started saying NES and SNES.

How is SNES as a word worse than S-N-E-S? You don't say L-A-S-E-R beams when talking about ranged weaponry in Star Wars, do you?

Snes, S-N-E-S, and Super Nintendo when I was younger. S-N-E-S just came after the advent of ZSNES; simple enough. Snes I occasionally use colloquially but is the most infrequently used one. Super Nintendo is definitely the best way to say it, people just don't say it anymore, probably for the same reason people don't say Playstation very often either.

Actually, i used to say J P G and G I F before i heard it called gif and jpg/jpeg in college. I think it's something to do with actually hearing people say something out loud rather than coming up with the saying yourself. Nobody EVER said the word snes to me growing up, i only heard it said that way maybe in the last 15 years and now that is what i say when i see the word. Awol, Swat, nasa etc are all things i heard way before i knew what they stood for. I didn't know Nasa was an acronym for a long time as a kid, and honestly i don't know what Awol is an acronym for right now. Never actually looked it up lol, i'ts just a word i always heard used.

I still say L O L and not lol, and say Laughing my ass off when i see Lmao as well. I still find hearing those said out loud to sound funny.

Many are acceptable, some are just weird. A Super Famicom and Super Nintendo are different things and shouldn't be used interchangeably. The last option, really dude?

I only use the only true and acceptable phrasing and thats calling it the "The Super Nintendo Entertainment SNES Family Supa Computer".

Not really I just call it S.N.E.S.
