I took some screenshots on my Wii and then took some similar shots on Dolphin in HD. Yes, this is legal, I'm using my own dumped copy of the game. 

I barely see a difference. 

Very nice. I'm still annoyed that Nintendo didn't make the Wii an HD system, it looks absolutely dreadful on HD TV's.

The Wii U not being able to upscale is very disappointing too.

Should've got some wind waker. Game looks fantastic in HD.

I literally see no difference except camera angles in the comparison pics.

If you remove the "_super" from the file names you'll be able to see the images at a higher resolution; you'll probably be able to see some differences then.

The Wii shots are VERY jaggy and blurry on TV's.

There's a huge difference when it's outputted in HD. Like others have said, Windwaker inparticular is beautiful in HD.

I can barely get dolphin to work. :/

Not really. I can run most things on Dolphin fine and my computer for the most part isn't very good.

Basically, you just need a multi-core processor. Having a dual core or quad core makes all the difference in the world. EDIT: and a decent graphics card.

Wii U should be able to manage 1080p, the question is the level of antialiasing (the Dolphin shots shown appear to have a relatively low level, and are probably in line with what will be available on the Wii U).  
 
A lot of Nintendo games (including Brawl) appear to have HD quality assets, which is why they look so good when run through Dolphin. Odd, since the Wii is an SD machine. It suggests that perhaps they intended on the Wii U from the very beginning. 

Running Cube/Wii games @ 480p on Dolphin is a piece of piss. You need a medium specced modern PC to run it with 4 or 8x SSAA and AF at those settings. 
 
When you bump it up to 720p it can make your pc pretty hot keeping it at 60 frames a second and you need a pretty sweet PC to run it with all the trimmings at 1080p.
