I never thought I'd say this, but if done right a live action Street Fighter IV movie could be badass. You just need to get the right people behind it.
I'm thinking less of this:
and more of this:
Am I crazy for wanting this?

Well the latest street fighter movie was bullshit. I didn't having any heartfelt childhood memories when watching this movie. My thoughts were only on the people who made that shitty movie and why they were even aloud to do this the street fighter franchise.
Err...Street Fighter: The Movie is one of my favorite movies of all time. So you're preaching too the wrong choir here. I think those fan-made things look 17 times as ridiculous, especially when they try to be all "serious."

At least that fan video gets the idea behind the ultras right. The Van Damme movie was just embarrassing. And it gave Raul Julia cancer and killed him.

" @Hailinel said:I saw it when I was twelve maybe twelve. Shit was stupid. Even a kid can tell they fucked things up." @lordofultima said:Dude, it was a kids movie. This was back in the day when video games were primarily aimed at children, after all. Not like the public's perception has changed too much since, but yeah. The Van Damme movie is terrible in all the right ways. I love that movie. Blanka looks so amazing...
I almost feel like the best hope Street Fighter would have as a live action film would be hyper stylised in a comparable way to something like Scott Pilgrim. It needs some visual flair because the backstory isn't that strong, and certainly if it's presented in a more realistic fashion, all those signature character moves are gonna look stupid. Maybe they could use stuff like the ink blot style themes in SF4 etc
There are a few shorts out there of live action street fighter fights that are pretty cool, but a lot of that is kind of novelty of "Oh that punch was Ryu's focus attack, Ken just did a shinryuken" etc. It's hard to imagine it being as interesting over the course of 90 minutes, padded out with well-trodden plots of Guile/Chun after Bison and Ryu trying to resist the dark hadou etc etc.
Most of the characters would also be very difficult to realise in a live action film without not being accurate or just looking silly. From the more outlandish characters like Blanka and Akuma, to what ethnicity you cast for the fairly anglo-looking japanese guy that is Ryu.
Hollywood can't make a good video game movie period. Most games aren't real practical to turn into a decent movie. They even manage to fuck up they few games that could be turned into a good movie. Take Max payne that should have been an fairly easy game to turn into movie not much crazyness ,a simple revenge storyline. But no they fucked it all up as they always do.
" @Napalm said:I think it's sad that you only think a good Street Fighter movie can come from looking intentionally bad, hammy and campy as hell. There's certainly a time and place for those movies, but I wouldn't mind seeing a rendition with actual martial artists who want to treat the art/sport/whatever of Street Fighter was some form of seriousness, in terms of brutal action and making everything look good." @lordofultima said:Don't think anything went over my head.
