Producer says purposely unbalanced arcade fighter not suitable for home consoles.
Super Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono says there are no plans for a console release of the game’sArcade Edition, released in December.
Speaking to Japanese magazine Famitsu - translated by Andriasang - Ono explains that, while last year’s console release of Super SFIV was intended to be as finely balanced as possible, Capcom purposely went in the other direction with Arcade Edition.
With early reports indicating that returning twins Yun and Yang – last seen in Street Fighter III: Third Strike – are somewhat overpowered, Ono said this was a deliberate tactic as he feels “having such a character helps to build community and competitive spirit.”
Two further characters, Oni and Evil Ryu – essentially beefed-up versions of existing characters Akuma and Ryu – are in the arcade game’s code but are yet to be officially unlocked, the game’s password system allowing for unlockable content over time.
Videos of the two briefly appeared after California’s Arcade Infinity – which as we reported earlier this week is set to close its doors this month - somehow obtained the code.
It had been widely expected that Arcade Edition – which also contains a variety of balance and moveset tweaks – would make its way to consoles by way of a DLC release.
In the interview, Ono also touches on the upcoming Street Fighter x Tekken collaboration with Namco. He saysStreet Fighter IV gave the fighting game market a new lease of life, and hopes the crossover with Tekken, which remains enormously popular in Japan, will “create a huge wave”

I sincerely hope the good Mr. Ono is trolling or I'll be really disappointed. Also, is it just me or does deliberate unbalancing of a fighting game to promote competition make absolutely no sense?
