I would highly recommend grabbing the demo first off of the PlayStation Network as it is a good teaser for the game and you can find out if it's your cup of tea. For me, it definitely was, I was instantly drawn in by the gameplay. Everything feels solid and you feel in control completely.
This is easily the best value for money out of everything I've purchased on the PS3 thus far. Online play is great fun (especially with friends) and there is a steep enough learning curve to make you want to continue to master it against stiff online competition.
There is also a mini-game mode and a tournament mode. The mini-game mode goes beyond the basic "shoot the ball into the goal" and focuses instead on developing other techniques players will need to succeed in competitive online matches. The mini-games also utilize the PS3's trophy system in a way that makes the replay value high even in the single player modes.
Tournament mode you play single player against cars controlled by bots, as if you were playing online. I must say, the bots have very well written AI that makes them great opponents and it really is hard to notice they aren't human players.
I love this game and would recommend it to anyone. It's the most fun I've had in any game since Team Fortress for Quake 1.
The development team deserves extra props for being extremely involved in the community via the forums at www.battle-cars.com
