Tamaki Uchida

Overview

Tamaki Uchida is a recurring character in the Megami Tensei franchise. She first appears as the nameless female protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei: if.... In the original Persona, she reappears as a named NPC, and later appears again in both chapters of Persona 2, Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. In the original English localization of the first Persona, her name was changed to Tammy.

Shin Megami Tensei: if...

Tamaki's character design was originally the female option for the protagonist of Shin Megami Tensei: if..., a student at Karukozaka High School. Like the other students, she becomes trapped on the campus following Hazama's demon summoning ritual. However, she leads a group of fellow students and allied demons through the five demon realms linked to the school and eventually brings Hazama's plan to an end, returning the school to normal.

Persona

In the original Persona, Tamaki is an NPC and a schoolmate of the main character and his friends at St. Hermelin High School. She is also a member of the school's fencing club and frequently feuds with Tadashi Satomi, a fellow student. If the player pursues the Snow Queen quest, she becomes trapped in the Hypnos Tower along with Tadashi and others and imprisoned in a dream in which she and Tadashi are madly in love with each other. Their new feelings carry over into the waking world after they're woken from their slumber. After waking, Tamaki will also give the player's party a mirror shard necessary to save Ms. Saeko.

Tamaki is described as having transferred to St. Hermelin High from another school, though she never talks about her previous school or what it was called. She does, however, impress other students with a surprising level of knowledge regarding demons, suggesting that she's had previous experience with them prior to the events of Persona. If talked to, she will also give the protagonist a rapier that she claims she used at her previous school, but is hesitant to state exactly what she used it for.

Persona 2

In Persona 2, set three years after the original game, Tamaki is a part-time employee of the Kuzunoha Detective Agency while attending a women's college and is now engaged to Tadashi. She is also described as an active devil summoner, and serves as a detective assistant to Chief Daisuke Todoroki. During the events of Persona 2: Innocent Sin, she and the chief are investigating the mystery behind the Joker. Together, they can spread rumors, which due to mysterious reality warping, are able to come true.
