    Tanya in Armageddon

Tanya is a character in the Mortal Kombat series that first appeared in Mortal Kombat 4. She would later appear in Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. In March of 2015 it was announced that she would be one of four DLC characters available in Mortal Kombat X. Though she was first introduced with a relatively innocent appearance, she has demonstrated time and again a penchant for being deceitful, opportunistic and willing to betray her current cause when a better opportunity presents itself.

    Story

In Mortal Kombat 4, Tanya is introduced as the daughter of an Edenian ambassador to other realms. However, she is also a devout follower of Shinnok, Elder God of the Netherrealm. Under the guise of inviting refugees into Edenia, she assists Shinnok, Quan Chi and their forces in sneaking their way into the realm without resistance. She later attempts to lure Liu Kang into a trap, but fails to kill him. Following Shinnok's defeat, Tanya, now wanted for treason, escapes to Outworld.

During the events of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Tanya serves within the ranks of Quan Chi and Shang Tsung's forces. After their defeat, however, Tanya is found by Baraka, who offers her the opportunity to join Onaga's service. With death the only alternative, Tanya agrees. She then assists Onaga by taking him to Edenia in order to search for information on how to fuse the Kamidogu together.

Together with Liu Kang in an underground tunnel, Tanya tries to make small talk by mentioning the relationship between him and Kitana. Liu Kang, however, is worried about his allies. A trap door closes, and Tanya steps back, revealing the trap as Shinnok and Quan Chi enter. Shinnok tells Liu Kang that all of his allies are dead. The elder god then kills Liu Kang when he tries to attack.

    Mortal Kombat: Deception

Tanya locates the Edenian texts that detail the process of fusing the Kamidogu together. Onaga uses this information to create the One Kamidogu. However, while Onaga was distracted in the joy of his victory, Tanya steals the artifact for herself. She uses its power to kill Onaga and become the ultimate overlord of the realms.

    Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Upon defeating Blaze, Tanya is transformed into a Dragon Caller. Able to summon dragon spirits to her side with a mere thought, she goes on to conquer the realms.

    Trivia

    • Tanya is also the name of one of Ed Boon's sisters. He used his other sister's name in the original game; Sonya.
    • Tanya has a cameo appearance in the 2011 Mortal Kombat as one of several characters that will randomly appear chained up in the background of Shao Khan's Coliseum.
