At a very young age, Tateha and her brother Ageha -- a newborn and a two-year-old at the time -- were part of a super-soldier project conceived by their father Jakou, the depraved king of Shinra. One of the alchemists in the project, Hiodoshi, felt pity and helped them escape. He tried to give them as normal an upbringing as possible, but after sixteen years Jakou's soldiers found them, and Hiodoshi was brutally killed. This trauma awakened Tateha and her brother's powers, and with them they managed to defeat Jakou and his army.

Three years after Jakou's defeat, Tateha and her brother had moved to the nation Soma, where they hoped to live in peace. However, as Soma's scientists discovered the secret behind Shinra's former power and re-started the Espgaluda project, they were once again forced into battle.
