Goddamn, I have no idea why but these turtles look messed up. I think the reason why is because they look too much like a real turtle in the face which gives me the creeps. I can understand changing it up to maybe fit the design of the upcoming Bay movie but its suppose to be based on the cgi nickelodeon show which looks totally different. If it ain't original 1990 live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles then count me out.

Nah it says its suppose to borrow some of the story from the 2012 nickelodeon series. If you also look at some of the promotional ads for this game it has Nickelodeon straight up on the front. Its kinda weird that they didn't stick to the original design of the tv series since that looks more kid friendlier and heck I'm in my mid-20's and I prefer that more. The faces are getting up there close to "Warriors of Virtue" esque.

Never bothered me much to be honest, it's just a generally more grounded or realistic take on the Turtles in my opinion.

Why can't the "aliens" justification work for them looking like the cartoony versions?

It's just a stylistic choice and while I'm not a huge fan of it (mainly the nostrils) I've gotten used to it.

Just for the record, this game is based on the Nick cartoon (every character design except for the turtles is pulled straight from it), although it doesn't have the same voice actors. Really and odd way of handling the aesthetic all around.

yeah, the faces look like concept art taken way too serious. Considering how the Michael bay production is coming by next year..... I guess this cannot be the worst design compared to what horrors await us from seeing guys walking around in motion capture unit costumes in the middle of NYC. Although some of those designs in the boss trailers clearly look like they took inspiration from the new Nickelodeon TMNT show, and they play the Partners in Kryme song, so it's self aware.

I just assumed that was the majority consensus

On-topic, yes the faces look weird. Seeing them in motion in the game is a little less jarring, but then you'll see their necks jut out like an extra foot and then the creep factor sets right back in. The voice acting in the game is also a bit weird. The game itself looks really fun, watched a few gameplay videos of it.

The turtles don't look like they do in the Nickelodeon cartoon, but the story and characters are the same. So I think they just went for their own unique design.

I'm probably in the minority when I say I like the look of these guys. I'm glad they decided to make their own realistic version of the turtles as apposed to making the same damn thing everyone else has been doing since the 1987 cartoon series. To me it reminds me of a realistic version of the original 1984 comics and 1990 movie mashed together in a way. It's also not so much a big deal once you start actually playing the game and seeing them rolling and dodging around in game. They also added in the Original comic look to them as well with everyone wearing the red bandannas, which is nice.

They may add in more skins later on for the folks who insist on having them look cartoon friendly, and I enjoy the cartoons including the new one but to me it's just nice to have them look the way they do.

Could be worse you could have them look like this...

I think they look pretty cool. It's a much weirder style for them and they now look even more mutant-y. God, I hope this game will be good; it looks like it has a fair bit of promise.
