Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The HyperStone Heist last edited by Mento on 02/07/21 09:55AM View full history

Overview

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The HyperStone Heist is a brawler based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles license by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. It is the first game from that franchise to appear on the Sega Genesis, and is loosely based on the second arcade game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time. Of the many changes, one was to more closely match the visual style of the comic books rather than the animated TV show.

The game featured all four of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ( Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello) taking on various villains (and a ton of Foot Soldiers) throughout the levels of the game. The villains included Leatherhead, Tatsu, Rocksteady, Stockman, Krang, and Shredder.

In Europe it is called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles: The HyperStone Heist due to the word "ninja" being censored from children's shows, and in Japan is called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Return of the Shredder.

Story

Shredder is back, and this time he has stolen not only the Statue of Liberty, but Manhattan itself! Shredder and the Foot Clan fight to retain the borough of New York through five levels of action.

Critical Reception

When released Electronic Gaming Monthly awarded scores of 8,8,8,7, stating, "...There are a few things missing from the SNES version that made it so good. You can't hurl enemies towards the screen and the game play has less to offer in terms of moves...This game is also far too easy in the 2 player mode".
