Is there a MK or DOA style Tekken game?

Whenever I hear them talk about Tekken on the Bombcast, it sounds amazing. Is one of them recent MK like where it focuses on recapping the story or are they more like traditional fighting games where you tend to get a short paragraph, if anything, when you start a ladder mode and another at the end?

Tekken has a bunch of stories going on in it, but no I don't think there's ever been one like the more recent MK games. It's delivered the latter way.

Tekken 6 tried to sum up the story so far and present its story in a more meaningful way, though it wasn't as successful as DOA or MK in doing so.

Tekken 6 had more story-ish stuff going on but it also had the crazy endings which are much better than that attempt.

There is, but it is MK 4 style! Badumpshhhhh. But really home versions of Tekken have ridiculous ending cinematics and that is what is remembered. Now go throw your son into a volcanoe

@ripelivejam: There was one King with a mask who was a pro wrestler, but then he was killed by Ogre (I think?) around Tekken 3. So some other dude took up the mask and became King instead, and was trained by the first King's rival, Armorking. But then the original King came back as Armorking while the new King was trying to beat the crap out of Marduk. Or maybe that was the original Armorking? All I know is there are, like, three dudes running around as some form of King right now.

Also, Mishimas throwing each other into volcanoes. That's how most of the games ended.

@dochaus: From what I remember is that original King was killed by Ogre, whereas original Armor King was killed by Marduk. King 2 was an orphan or something and Armor King 2 is Armor King 1's long lost twin brother, Hernando.

So would Tekken 6 be a good one to try out to try and get an overview of what the story of Tekken is all about and learn about the intricacies of volcana throwing? And if so, can I get that from the PSP version?

Tekken 6's boss is cheap garbage. Don't put yourself through that.

I feel like getting a grasp on the Tekken story would be pretty difficult at this point. A lot of what I know came from reading the biographies in the manuals of the ps1 entries. Modern Tekken typically does a little prologue before each characters arcade mode, has one scripted battle with unique dialogue, then has a narrated ending, and then a weird CG video. Tekken 6 has videos that kind of recap the earlier entries, but it focuses mostly on the main family, so you don't really learn anything about the other characters. If I were you I'd probably just look up all the character's ending videos. It'd be awesome if they released something like Mortal Kombat 9 though, a lot of the stuff in the earliest 2 games is a little unclear.
