Telefrag

Overview

Telefrags occur when one being teleports onto the exact spot in space which another being is currently occupying. This results in the instant death (via violent explosion) of the character that was occupying that space, and is almost always an accidental, if fortunate, event for the murderer. For the most part, telefrags can be found in first-person shooters, and the first game to employ the mechanic was the original Doom. Eventually telefragging became a common mechanic in FPS games, and some, like Unreal Tournament and its sequels, allow the player to intentionally telefrag other players by using the Translocator, a personal short-range teleportation device normally intended to provide rapid transit.
