Besides digging, building, and collecting resources, combat is a huge part of Terraria.
Besides digging, building, and collecting resources, combat is a huge part of Terraria.

UPDATE: Added a few more details below.

    --

Of all the games created in Minecraft’s wake, Terraria is one of the better ones. More than just a 2D version of Minecraft, Terraria takes the the idea of collaborative building and exploring and just goes.

Soon, it won’t be just a thing for PC users, as the developers announced that Terraria is also coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

The announcement said the console versions are “coming soon” and will feature “brand new content." It's scheduled for a vague "2013," and is being ported by Re-Logic and 505 Games.

It’s only $9.99 to see what all the fuss is about on Steam.

This game was incredibly fun on PC, so I'm glad that more people can experience it.

The apparent backlash from PC gamers is so fucking dumb. Quit crying about it being ported. The game is great as it is, and provides way more stuff to do than in Minecraft.

This is nice, but I don't think I'm going to play Terraria again on the consoles after I got everything on PC. I can see why the PC gamers are upset though, it sounds like they won't be getting the new content, and that can sting.

Still looking foward to Starbound though!

This was a fantastic, endlessly fun game for me. My only criticism is how awhile ago "many" additional updates/upgrades were promised (all for free) with new items, biomes, weather, new bosses and much more; some of this was even teased in pictures posted by the developer. But then it never happened, and development suddenly stopped seemingly out of nowhere for the PC version. Many who bought the game counting on these upgrades felt betrayed, and rightfully so. I have no doubt most fans would've been happy to pay additionally for it.

Leads me to believe whatever was being withheld may be the "brand new content" mentioned above.

To people wondering why the PC players are upset, I think it's because they don't think they're going to get the new content, only the console versions are. That kind of sucks. If they really like Terraira, they need to both buy the game again, and play it on a console instead of a PC (Which is a pretty fun place to play it.)

It's a really good news for the Terraria fans out there (which I am not a part of) knowing that the developers stopped adding new content to the game quite some time ago if I remember correctly.

More people playing good games: good thing.

Yeah, I don't understand. I guess they just want to feel special? I mean they already have the best versions of games almost 9/10 so why care if anyone else gets to experience it even if it might be a slightly worse version?

At raging? Yes, because you swapped "their" and "they're". Although I wouldn't think they would take the time to type IT'S. Figured it would come out more like ITS or IT"S.

I suppose this was a long time coming. Terraria was fantastic; like a metroidvania version of Minecraft. I might have played more Minecraft, but Terraria had a much better fun:time-spent ratio overall.

I do hope we get the new content on PC. The game needs a proper "end boss" or something like that to shoot for.

Terraria really is a great example of gamer entitlement at its very worst. The game as it was at launch was excellent and a great deal for $10, and the free content added later made it even better. I'm not sure why people feel that for $10, Redigit is now their slave and has to toil away to provide them with more free content for the rest of his miserable days.

That said, I'd be happy to see the new content come to PC, would be nice to have a reason to log some more hours into the game.

I am a little angry, but not that the how the game is being released for consoles but, how the support for the game is gone (PC) and that all the updates stopped b/c it was said that all the other people who helped make it started working on other game/quit. So now some how their is going to be new content when the game wasn't ever going to have it on the PC. But it mod support was added we could make our own content.

It's such an overrated game, so overly simplistic and completely superficial and cheap (indie). With so much fan pandering, like the Mario suit, or Light Sabres. It feels a lot like the Chinese Apple Store.

It's a descent game for kids, a well made genre mash-up. But just spawning enemies infinitely off-screen isn't exactly amazing game design. Terarria would benefit a lot from smarter AI, and more realistic physics and robust multiplayer matchmaking.

Not at all. Entitlement and feeling betrayed after numerous broken promises are two completely different things. And I'm confident that fans would've been happy paying additional money for those unreleased upgrades.

Then there's Redigit's reason for stopping development out of nowhere; to spend time with his kid. A perfectly acceptable reason to take a break in itself, but after all the teaser pictures and promising so much to your loyal fans/customers and using this as an excuse to get out of it, it seemed pretty disingenuous.

I'm curious as to how this will play on the console without a mouse. Using the right analogue stick seems like it would be weird. I'd also like to know what the new things they're adding will be.

And here's the problem. There were, for the most part, not a lot of promises. There was a wish list of features he wanted to add, but stupid retards on the internet took it as gospel and when he decided not to continue work on it anymore, the tears came flooding. Honestly? I can't blame him for taking his ball and going home after some of the shit I saw people say to him. There is no reason for the hideous, disgusting things that some people felt were deserved towards him over the whole situation.

Exactly, it's normal over a scope of a project to trim scope, which sounds like exactly what he did. And also there's a bigger point. He stopped working on Terraria to spend time with his kid. That's sort of the point where any sane person is going to say 'Yeah, that's more important than Terraria having goblin towns'. To make a slightly more extreme example, it'd be like your employer telling you that you could not take time off to attend a family member's funeral because they paid you, so all that matters is that you do your job.

Stuff like this is why devs have to keep their cards so close to their chests when they're developing something. They know full well that if they so much as mention a feature that doesn't wind up shipping (or, God forbid, ships as DLC!), the gamer community is going to lose its mind.

This whole thing reminds me of why Dave Chapelle left the mainstream, and I hope Redigit's 'fans' don't drive him out too.

I can't wait until all the additional content for the console versions is released in a free patch for the PC version (probably within days of the console releases, if not on the same day). It's just a shame I won't be able to see all the PC snobs removing their feet from their mouths.

Out of the 120 so hours that I played Terraria; it is definitely a safe bet that I will be picking this title up for the 360 so that my local friends will die horribly when we go mining together. ._. Probably never get to see The Wall of Flesh...

@CaptainInvictus: PC Elitists? Is that term more satisfactory? They seem pretty synonymous to me.

    No. The foot-in-mouth thing.

Unless you're talking about them doing something different or just mis-presented the line, that is.

I'll be a bit peeved if the "new content" promised for consoles never comes to PC, but I'm not going to care all that much.

    Especially since Starbound is coming.

I loved this game but lost momentum when I couldn't figure out what else to do, I was hoping they would do an XBLA version of this.

Great to hear! It's a fun game and console folks should check it out. Especially if you like Minecraft, or wished you liked Minecraft because it's too slow. More emphasis on fighting, bit of an action-RPG in there.
