I really loved the first game and I'm really looking forward to this one. Looking at the game page and even these forums, it seem like not that many people care about the game coming.

Any reason there might be for that? Maybe the driving? The world? Gameplay?

Not sure. Curious about it though. What style of driving is it? It is more simulation style like a GT or Forza, or more Burnout? (obviously it could be somewhere between, those are the two opposite ends of the spectrum)

It's still got 3 months till it comes out. And, GT5 and Hot Pursuit satiated those people's palates for the time being. At least it did for mine.

I'm interested but too lazy to find out what it's actually about. Seems like a driving sim with an open world aspect?

I want it because of the open world online/offline driving. I just hope the game is of actual quality. The first one was horrible, but then again it felt dated as hell.

I care, and I'm guessing plenty of other people do too. But there are plenty of new driving games right now, so this probably won't get a lot of attention until we get closer to release.

I loved the first one. Just cruising around that massive island was fun as hell. I never saw a lot of people online though, at most about 10. If it's anything like the first one, I'm buying it. I still remember the race around the island from the first one. Took about 45 minutes to complete. It was epic.

Oh yeah! Race around the island was awesome! This game looks like more of the first - which is exciting.

Test Drive Unlimited was more about ownership of cars then really driving them. But having said that, I really did enjoy cruising around Hawaii in my Maserati listening to my favourite tracks. I drive to relax in this game whereas Gran Turismo is where I get my racing challenges from.

I'm not particularly fond of open world racing games, I don't think it works very well.  It's very had to try and race, have to look at the map all the time to try and see why you should be going AND avoid incoming traffic.  And although I've only played the beta, which may not represent the final game..  All I can say is that everything about it feels very unnatural, especially the community aspects.  They're out of place, don't feel right and are completely unnecessary and bog the game down behind a redundant UI.

This is a tough question because I don't hear a whole lot about it but at the same time, it's a big enough game where people know exactly what it is.  The first TDU pissed me off a little bit because I would pour so much time into it only to have it freeze up or just not work correctly.  I'm hoping they have ironed everything out for TDU2.  I originally was going to purchase it right off the bat, but I am going to wait to see how the review turn out and how it is received.  I am currently waiting for both this and Brink.  Brink is what I am more looking forward to in the first quarter of 2011.

Back to your question, I don't believe that it's not popular, it's just that right now there are more than enough racing games on the market and there are still about two months remaining before it is even released.  I believe people would be more hyped for this game if they would at least show gameplay footage.  However, the inclusion of TDU Casino Online has made me furrow my brow in interest just a little bit!  Here's to hoping TDU2 is a success!

I remember Test Drive 'The Duel; on the Commodore 64 which makes me feel very old :P . Was pretty good actually and the first racing game i remember playing with proper manual gears.

As for TDU 2, I was a big fan of the first one even though the PC version was pretty buggy. Ive been tempted by TDU2 but the one thing I have to have in a driving game is a decent handling model. Doesnt have to be a flatout sim but this just looks like the vehicles handle pretty badly and the social side of things isnt really enough to compensate for that.

It's definitely a competitive market with games like Forza, Hot Pursuit and GT out there. Atari's weakened market share also means they don't have the marketing dollars to compete against those other games, so public perception is lower. As for these forums, the recent QL did it no favors (hilarious though it was). From that preview, it looks like a slower burn than say Forza or NFS:HP, which get you to the mad racing faster. Production values are also noticeably lower, again a side effect of Atari's current state and budget they gave the game.

I was interested until I saw all the SIMS wannabe aspects of the game. I want a driving game, and an open world driving game in Hawaii would be great. BUT I do not want a game that is interrupted by me having to buy clothes and apartment stuff. I think a lot of people are turned off by the heavy SIMS influence.

It's a great game, though, not for everyone, definitely not for everyone.

I played it for about 7 hours straight yesterday. I'm still not sure how I feel about it. The online servers were down all day so I didn't get the "unlimited" experience.
