The 1980s was a decade that began on January 1st 1980 and ended on December 31st 1989. The decade was best known for being the end of the Cold War, introducing laissez-faire capitalism to the western world, and the crack cocaine epidemic of the United States.

In the modern day, the 1980s is often retrospectively viewed as a nostalgic time period by many people. The decade has been heavily influential for fashion, pop culture, music and video games.

The 1980s was best known for introducing New Wave music, a genre influenced from post-punk and synthpop. Several synthpop / New Wave musical groups, predominantly from the United Kingdom, emerged from this decade such as Frankie Goes to Hollywood, the Human League, Yo-Yo, Simple Minds, Tears for Fears and many more.

This decade was also the rise of glam metal / hair metal, much of these acts originated from the United States such as KISS, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, and Quiet Riot just to name a few.

    Game Appearances

Many games are commonly set in the 1980s, examples include Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Hotline Miami, and Scarface: The World is Yours.
