Overview
The Cat and the Coup is a free indie title created by Peter Brinson and Kurosh ValaNejad. It is mainly a short documentary on the life of Dr. Mohammed Mossadegh, the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran. More specifically, it examines with the important times between his election as Prime Minister and the coup orchestrated by the CIA to remove him from power. The game employs simple gameplay, narrative and an art style consisting of Persian Miniatures and Appropriation.
Gameplay
The player controls Mossadegh's cat by simply using the arrow keys for movement and the space bar to interact within contextual situations. Mossadegh is in fact dead at the beginning of the game and the player is tasked with coaxing his ghost out of each room using Cat like and non-Cat like influences, such as sitting in his lap to knocking down a lamp.
Every room that the player and Mossadegh inhabits is a short narrative on important events throughout his life, each one labelled with a date and a short description. In order to progress to the next room, the player must solve a simple program, most of them involving Mossadegh directly.
