    Overview

A combination multiplayer and single player game, The Crew was a live-service game that followed four-player car teams who work together to complete objectives in cities and countryside across the contiguous United States.

In December 2023, Ubisoft delisted the game from all digital storefronts and announced that the game's servers would be shut down on March 31, 2024.

    Gameplay

The Crew featured the entire continental United States and its key cities for players to drive in. The map was divided into five regional areas. At E3 2013, creative director Julian Gerighty claimed that driving from coast to coast in a Lamborghini using only highways takes one hour and fourty-five minutes and that New York City in the game is roughly the size of Liberty City in GTA IV.

    Crews

Players can form "crews" with their friends to complete objectives and compete against other crews.

    Customization

The game featured car customization with five main categories, or "Specs": Street, Dirt, Performance, Raid and Circuit. Players were able to modify their fullstock cars to fit into these categories:

    • Street: Starting spec, with basic modifications for entry-level street racing on pavement. Added nitrous and visual customization of your car.
    • Dirt: Vehicles were given lifted suspension, stronger differentials, and larger ground clearance for off-road racing for dirt roads.
    • Performance: A step above "Street", with enhanced tuning, lowered suspension, weight reductions for better handling and speed.
    • Raid: Reinforced chassis, roll cages, bull-bars, heavy-duty tires, and truck suspension allowed for taking-out enemy vehicles on all types of terrain.
    • Circuit: Top-tier spec for use around the game's many racing circuits.

The Crew: Wild Run expansion added three more categories focusing on different disciplines:

    • Monster Truck: True to its name, the vehicle was tuned to have big wheels to do big stunts. Players controlled their monster trucks in the air to do flips.
    • Dragster: The vehicle's engine was supercharged for ridiculously high speeds and fast acceleration in drag races. Of course, they could not steer much and manual transmission was practically required, and nitrous could only be used when it was full.
    • Drift Cars: The drivetrain, suspension, and tires were changes to allow for easy oversteering to start long, stylish drifts in drift events.
