The Eidolon is a mysterious vehicle the player finds in an abandoned laboratory. The vehicle resembles the Time Machine from the film adaptation of the H.G. Wells novel. The vehicle is capable of interdimensional travel, and the player is transported to mystical caves where various monsters are awakened by the energy produced by the machine.
Gameplay
The Eidolon consists of a basic control panel, displaying the current level, remaining energy, energy color, and direction, as well as the number of diamonds remaining to complete a level. The player can shoot monsters of various colors by selecting energy of that color. Additionally, some monsters shoot energy which can be absorbed by the Eidolon if the proper color is selected. The player must gather three diamonds and defeat a dragon to proceed through each of the six levels before running out of energy. There is no continue function, which lead contemporary reviews to comment on the unusual difficulty.
