I just picked this game up and started playing it. After roughly playing around 30 hrs I can truely say, " Holy shit, this game is definately one of my favorites." This game still holds up after 5 1/2 years.

I started playing earlier this year, just to get the vibe of The Elder Scrolls, in preparation for Skyrim.

38 hours clocked, the sheer amount of content and quest detail blew my mind all over the floor. I stopped because, seriously, the Oblivion train has passed, but Skyrim is almost here.

Dude, you need to ride that wave all the way to the finish. My excitment for Skyrim jumped 10 fold.

Depends on what it is you didn't like about Morrowind.

In 2007/2008 I put over 180 hours into the game. I stopped for a while to play another game and I couldn't play Oblivion anymore after that.

Yup, agreed completely. Most people who have never played it, or only played it quickly right after release, seem to have the impression that it's quite dated and doesn't hold up for some reason--they seem to forget the fact that Fallout 3 owes the vast majority of what made it great to Oblivion.

Maybe. Personally, I can't stand Morrowind. Colour pallet, severely dated visuals, tons of reading, too much dice rolling... Ugh.

On the other hand, I'd say that Oblivion is, for me, probably the best open world game currently available.

Hopefully if you liked Oblivion so much, Skyrim will blow your brains all over the damn wall. That game is looking better and better every single time I see something about it.
