Yep. I still have to play Uncharted 3 and Deus Ex but I doubt they will be more enjoyable than Skyrim. I mean I'm playing the PS3 version of Skyrim (buggy as hell!) and it's still fucking AMAZING.

For me? Yeah. I've played through Uncharted 3, MW3, Battlefield, Dark Souls, Saints Row, Batman, LA Noire, Dead Space 2, and Gears 3. It stands tall.

Also, on a pure technical level, Skyrim is very flawed with it's numerous bugs. I think it's unfair to give a GOTY title to it simply because the world is large and there's a lot of content when there are much more well polished and produced games even if they are shorter.

It's not simply because, on a macro scale, Skyrim is massive, but also because it has quality in every small detail. It has well designed main quests, side missions and miscellaneous quests, and that is ignoring it's in-depth RPG elements, outstanding graphics, variety of objectives to accomplish, and probably a lot more. It has bugs, but that is to be expected in such an unscripted, huge world.

I'd take the bugs of skyrim over anything else that I've played this year.

    This.

Also, I played Skyrim on the 360 with two other friends playing as well (one on 360 and one on PS3) over the weekend it came out, and between us there were almost no bugs or glitches to speak of. The only thing that happened that is noteworthy were the 6 or so lock-ups between the three of us. This game seems to be in a far better state at launch than Bethesda's previous few games, and those were great too.

I'm with you but I have to say that SR3 has so many problems that there's no way it could or should be GOTY. Everyone should play it though.

Skyrim's probably my GOTY this year. Or at least it has taken so much of my time.

While I am enjoying Skyrim to an almost obscene extent, and it is most definitely MY Game of the Year, I'd have to say that compared objectively to some of the other games that have come out this year, it's most likely going to be a case of whether or not size matters. If you take a look at say, Batman: Arkham City, it's a heavily orchestrated, carefully and fantastically story driven game, with slick combat and interesting side missions. It can't hold a candle to Skyrim in terms of size, but it's polished to a shine. Same with Gears of War 3, which, while I personally didn't enjoy it a great deal, can see the appeal. Once again, not even close in terms of size, but polished to a shine. The argument holds true with any other contender: Does the size of Skyrim crush any other competition that, while smaller, is debatably more refined? Does the fantastic level of quality in Skyrim combined with it's size allow it to beat out other games that, while smaller, have a PERFECT level of quality? I repeat: Skyrim is MY Game of the Year, but I can see how others might win.

I played alot of Skyrim and enjoy the heck out of it.  It will probably be Giantbomb's game of the year (hell even jeff put in alot of hours, he doesn't seem to do that often for most games).  But for me personally Witcher 2 seems to be a much better game, I just liked the world, the characters, the story, the branching choices, the production values and combat.  It's just a really good game top to bottom.

You're right. What makes it fair to award Skyrim GOTY, is the fact that that all that content is fucking awesome.

You guys would take the crippling framerate bug on the PS3 over any other game this year? You know, the one where you reach a certain point and the game can never produce a scene above 20 frames per second ever again? Yeah, right up there with games like Batman and Uncharted...

Lol Batman and Uncharted? Ya those games are good but there not as good as Batman 1 and Uncharted 2. GOTY my stinky ass. If anything has the chops to go toe to toe with Skyrim it's Magicka imo.

I think I prefer Dark Souls.
