The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. Only the player, as the prophesied hero the Dovahkiin, can save the world from destruction.
DO NOT DOWNLOAD 1.2
Its been confirmed to remove all resistances in the game which is pretty gamebreaking. Other glitches such as still no texture fixes for 360 , deleted or corrupted saves for Ps3 and other minor problems are being reported. If you do download the best way to test if your resistances are broken is to summon a flame atronoch and hit it with fire. If you can kill it with fire then your screwed. I myself rushed to set steam to not update my PC version. My 360 character will have to wait or so it seems. Post your post patch experiences if to you download it.
On the flipside, maybe the game will actually be somewhat challenging now with my level 67 character. But seriously, the first I'm doing when I get home is to disable automatic updates to the game in Steam.

is purposely disabled it because i heard about the patch bugs. then i cooked some lunch and watching the endurance run while i eat and bam. damn thing updated anyways.
@Jayzilla: Well I mean their games are so big that even after hundreds and hundreds of play tests and fixes there is still more to be found?Especially when they have to push things for release dates. You really can't blame them only thank them that they tried their best. It's only until the millions of people who buy it and the millions of others who pirated it play billions of times until they find everything. That a team of a hundred or so guys couldn't.

Well if the update is already out, then it's too late for me anyway since Steam would have already updated on my desktop at home. But as I said before, I'm not too worried since even without armor or resistances, I doubt anything in the game will give my level 81 PC character much challenge.
@Agent47: My game doesn't even launch after the patch, not even to the main menu or anything. No mods, no ini tweaks etc. I can understand reduced dev team size right now while the guys are off on vacation after the release crunch, and that it's impossible to 'test' everything etc etc.... But all these patches are doing is fixing 5 minor issues they are labeling as 'rare' and removing REAL features like the LAA tweaks and general stability issues go untouched. I'd rather they don't even bother patching it for a few months if this is what we are getting right now, this is super frustrating having to basically fight against each patch to run the game properly.
Not to mention the normal fighting against the game's engine to tweak anything, and having saves corrupt when you tell the game to re-generate it's ini and have it spit out a quadruple sized ini with large amounts of fallout and past game's commands all in it... they re-built gamebryo or whatever, but they also.. kinda didn't.. it's still built on the same foundation which seems really unsound.
@Demoskinos:
You don't have to double space after periods when typing with a non-monospaced font. Just looks weird.
@Agent47:
Use a goddamn space after your periods. Looks weird without any.
I havent moticed any problems on the 360 yet, but its doubtful I would notice an resistance issues since I don't pay attention to those at all to begin with. As far as textures go, the install seems to be working just fine on that front

Funnyhowthere'sanexampleofbothwaysinasinglethread.
To me it sounds like the PS3 patch being rushed out ahead to fix the more glaring issues was essentially a live test beta and those of us on the PC or 360 probably won't be seeing the patch on its scheduled delivery day because they'll be scrambling to make sure it isn't in those versions.
That's why version numbers of version numbers exist. 1.4.532.
Shit, mine just started updating.
Meh, Imma let it finish. If it's truly gamebreaking I'm sure it'll be fixed in a few hours by either Bethesda or the mod community... Okay, the mod community.
from UESPWiki's Patch page:
No comment from Bethseda have been made on the forums regarding this, but the 1.2 patch has now been removed from the servers. Clearing the game data, and downloading the patch will now give you the 1.1 patch.
Lol... The patch was supposed to basically do NOTHING, most of the fixes listed by Beth are labeled as 'rare' issues... no actual mention of the stuttering that's fixed by LAA which each patch keeps breaking, no mention of general stability improvements. Hopefully they release something worth the space it takes up on their servers cause so far their patches have negative value :S I need mods to fix patches... Gamebryo rolls deep, still.
Sigh. Here I was being happy that there was an update. Just finished literally 30 seconds before I saw this thread.
btw, anyone seeings crashes (pre-patch) in certain areas on PC? There is this one mountain I am going down and I always crash on it - this is a full on black window crash where Windows has to be rebooted. Since the screen goes blank and the monitor enters standby mode, I assume this is a graphics driver-related crash.
I just killed my flame atronach with my flame spell! ... Is that a good thing? Yeah, I was reading this topic, just had finished reading why not to download it when in the corner of my screen it said "Steam has finished updating Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim". So I tested it, and yeah, resistances are screwed up a bit I guess.
So I just fired up the PC version (which was updated to 1.2) and indeed I am running into the resistance bug.
PC version.
i have broken resists and i went to a dragon shrine, backwards awkward flying dragon. seemed to have an invisible barrier so when i ran closer towards it, it looked like it was being pushed away. oh, it was also stuck halfway inside the mountain side, i FUS DO RAH'd it out and it rubberbanded 200 feet away into the sky lol...so theres that too....

Why are there like five spaces in between sentences?
I think the style is supposed to represent an emergency telegram "Patch is broken stop do not upadate stop send vitals on the dirigible stop"
Edit: Also, Steam already updated my game. Damn them for being so convenient!

My PC version just updated on Steam, can anyone verifiy that saves will be ok? I won't launch it until I find out.
Backup your save games (C:\Users\{User}\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves). It didn't ruin my saves.
However, I am getting one shotted by any lighting mage, which makes the game not fun.

There's a cave at the top of a mountain that will always crash everyone unless you're playing in windowed mode. I can't remember the name of it right now.

I lowered my settings to medium and that seems to have done it for now.

I am waiting a few months to buy this game until they fix it. I have been burned by Bethesda a few too many times to pay full box price for their broken games.
It's far from broken, unless you can only play on the PS3.
Yeah it is not that bad on PC and 360. I´ve played for about 65 hours on 360 so far and had the game lock up 4 times during loading screens. It had the "dead guest shows up to your marriage" thing and a few other weird little bugs, but nothing gamebreaking.
The texture issue is definitely present in 1.1 , but can be circumvented by not installing it or installing it to a memory stick (worked for me, though I still had a few weird textures).
Seems like this patch acutally makes the game worse. But this is to be expected from Bethesda. It seems like their A-Team drops the ball completely once a games has shipped. Fallout 3 (for me at least) was really nice and relatively bug free.. but it had some MAJOR issues with DLC and patches. Maybe they let their interns to this stuff, I don´t know.
Darn if the new bugs from thew latest patch are true then I guess I have to wait to play on PS3 8(
At least I have AC:R and Saints Row the Third to hold me off
If Steam updated you to 1.2, and you want to go back to 1.1 to use the Long Address Aware fix, all you have to do is replace the TESV.exe with the old one. If you didn't back up the old .exe you might have to hunt for one on the internets, it should be 18.2MB, where v1.2 is 18.6MB. Duder posted a link to a .rar file with all the old .exes in this thread but the file has been deleted since then.
Update: After replacing the .exe with the old 18.2 and using LAA fix, I've been playing for 2+ hours without crashing to desktop, all my resistances work correctly, and I can even launch it through Steam and still get achievements.
I did a fresh install on the 360 (cleared cache and a direct update process from 1.0 to 1.2) and I've not seen any problems the 6 hours I've played of it so far. The texture problem is fixed and it looks great! Also my Orc have 0% magic resistance from the start so even if I did get the bug, It's not a problem.

Some of us learned to type using two spaces after a period. It's kind of a hard habit to break. It's also not, in any way, a wrong way to type. The OP on the other hand, used no less than three spaces (and up to seven in one case); that is wrong.
On the subject, Steam already auto updated it, so it's too late for me. I'll try it out and see just how broken it is, then I guess I'll probably wait for the next patch.
