The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. Only the player, as the prophesied hero the Dovahkiin, can save the world from destruction.
Max settings
Hello. I'm trying to decide whether I should purchase Skyrim for PC or for X-box. The main reason I'm hesitant while deciding is I'm not sure if I can run it on max settings with my current setup. If there is anyone who knows about these kinds of things that can help me I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
My setup.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 295
Intel Core i7 CPU 860 @2.80GHz
8GB DDR3 RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Troll thread? I'm curious, because your computer is generations ahead of the 360, and I'm sure you know this.
Thank you for the info. I shall preorder now.
Not a troll thread at all. I just needed some reassurance. I couldn't run The Witcher 2 very well :/
witcher 2 = dx11
skyrim = dx9
it should run great, though bethesda is not the greatest when it comes to optimization

Yeah as above says, witcher really needed a dx11 card to actually run well. Skyrim should run fine on that, though I'm going to be a little skeptical and say you'll be able to run high but if there is an ultra mybe not.

Hi, I am setting you this asinine question, which I already know the answer to, as a means to impress people.
Seriously, though, if you're having problems running The Witcher 2, I cannot fathom why. I'm running a Phenom X4 955 Black, an HD4870 and 4GB DDR3 - my framerate is near perfect and all I did was turn off motion blur and Uber-sampling.
@natural_deadhead said:He probably does not have those turned off then. Even with my GTX 570, I have a hard time running it with those turned on. Also, even without those turned on, if he's trying to run it at a really high resolution, he could have troubles.Hello. I'm trying to decide whether I should purchase Skyrim for PC or for X-box. Considering this is a console game, yes it should run phenomenally on that computer.
Well, that'll be as long as it's a good port. I don't even dare to count all the shoddy console-to-PC ports that run terribly even on hardware that is many times better the recommended. That said, he shouldn't have any problem running the game in the higher, if not highest, settings with that hardware.

Go PC with that setup. The best graphics, the mods, Steam Achievements, and the 360 controller.... Ahhhhhh.
Do you have reliable information that confirms that Skyrim will be a Steamworks game with Achievements, or is it just a wild assumption? Neither Morrowind nor Oblivion had Steam Achievements and, so far, the Steam page for Skyrim lists "Single Player" as its only feature.

There is no confirmation, but games with achievements on Steam frequently don't show their achievements before being released. Morrowind and Oblivion not having achievements doesn't mean anything, for obvious reasons. New Vegas, however, which is the most relevant indicator to look toward (involvement from Obsidian or no), did have achievements, and there's no good reason for them to not do the same with Skyrim with the ever-increasing ubiquity of Steam and Steam achievements in "AAA" games released on it.
We won't know for sure until the game comes out, of course, but it's more a reasonable presumption than a wild assumption. Skyrim not having Steam achievements would be the anomaly, not the other way around.
Oh look at me I've got a ridiculously jacked computer. Let me flex my computer muscles at everyone's scrawny ass computers and ask if my muscles are big enough. I know they are but I'll say they aren't so that they feel even more inferior and thus gaze upon my computer with even more awe.
I hate you *continues playing on his scrawny macbook laptop*
Maybe you need a new card because this is a new engine remember. Im running games with a 450 gts and im running games at 60 frames just barely, and this is overclocked too! so I would get something more up to date or take the safe route and go xbox :)
dx9 really? WTH didn't they at least go with 10? Will PC get 10? I mean I'm not a graphics whore but they'd get more out of 10.witcher 2 = dx11 skyrim = dx9 it should run great, though bethesda is not the greatest when it comes to optimization
Also Witcher 2 is dx11 in the next patch?

Why bother with 10...?
