    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Game » consists of 30 releases. Released Nov 11, 2011

The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. Pleasantly surprised by Skyrim's console performance!

OK, let me just start by saying that I was very nervous prior to this game's release about the performance and bugs it would have. These types of games are usually littered with them. After 30 hours of playing, however, I can't get over how impressed I am with the game's performance on the 360. While it of course doesn't look as good as it's PC counterpart, the game is definitely a new feat in terms of open world games. The weather and environmental effects are done almost near perfectly. Mountains look so good when you're gazing up to them. I honestly didn't think I'd ever see something like this in an open world game on consoles. And I've only ran into one bug, which was easily fixable - during that "ring puzzle" thing with the Golden Claw, the rings wouldn't move. I just had to re-enter the room and it worked.

Also, I haven't experienced one single framerate dip yet. Bethesda really juiced the console version of this game to look as good as it can!

On a side note... I'm playing the game off the disc because of the texture problem, but it's not a big deal at all. I have a Slim and the things are silent anyway, and I don't have to worry about overheating. When the patch comes out I'll definitely be installing it though, if not just out of mere curiosity.

    Anyway, back into the game!

Good. I bought it on the 360, and it should be shippin' in anytime. Glad you haven't encountered many problems.

@r0k1ll: Literally the only problem I can foresee is the texture issue which will be patched in the coming week or two, so it might be out by the time you get your copy. If not, just play it off the disc. The load times aren't bad at all, and when the patch comes out and you'll be able to install, they'll only get better.

Been playing off the disc too and am also impressed. 1 bug so far, I was killed by fire and my character would be dead but if would not load up because I was taking permanent fire damage.

No framerate dips, no freezes, no glitches (like eyes popping out of dogs) and the loads are surprisingly fast for off the disc. I don't want to say Bethesda did a good job just yet because I don't know what the rest of the xbox360 players are experiencing, but I'm extremely happy with the product I've purchased.

I have to agree with you.The only glitches that I've found were 2 lock-ups,but they were during loading,so everything was autosaved before, and one time I was stuck on my companion, which wasn't really pleasant, but after restarting the game everything worked fine.

I'm glad the Xbox guys are having fun. I bought it on PS3 but the framerate stuttered so much it was ruining the game for me. I eventually just bought it on Steam and am having a blast.

I'll probably trade in my PS3 copy for the new Zelda or something.

Yeah, I've played the game for 30 hours on my 360, and haven't run into a single bug.

Also, this game looks damn good on the 360. They crammed a lot of good-looking game into 3.8 GB.

30 hours here too and playing off the disk on my 360. I've locked up once and haven't seen any bugs or glitches worth noting. Great game.

I have heard a lot of complaints about framerate issues in the PS3 version that supposedly gets worse with time, but I've played it for 50+ hours (with save files in the 7MB range, way above the reported 5.5MB for the issue to appear) and haven't noticed anything but occasional stuttering just when I enter a new area or when crazy stuff happens. I wonder if there's any difference between the EU and US releases, or if it's only certain models of PS3's that are affected?

The only real framerate drop I noticed was when looking into the mouth of a dragon while it breathed fire on me. In that case, it's perfectly acceptable. :D

Thoroughly disappointed in the PC version. =\

I have an i5 760, GTX 570, and 4GB of ram. You would think that would be plenty to run this game. With shadows turned on to ultra, the game chugs more than a 21 year old on his birthday, but my computer can run The Witcher 2 maxed out just fine.

But regardless of performance, this is easily one of my favorite games ever.

I haven't had any problems with PC version. i5-2500k, AMD 6950. Nothing AMAZING, but I am running at ULTRA. I do have 8 GB ram though. Maybe that's the difference?? From the sound of yours, it shouldn't chug.

Coming in from angle where I haven't gamed on a PC in years, are all your drivers up to date? (sorry if it sounds obvious, but worth a shot)

Also, isn't that amount of RAM small compared to todays standards? Seems to be the average amount found on a cheap computer.

4 gigs of RAM is around medium-high. Most games these days will run happily with 2 gigs. The thing with Skyrim is that it doesn't utilise more then two gigs RAM because...well, because the PC version is just plain odd in some parts (fix here for that). It's fairly stable (for a Bethesda game) but the PC version suffers from the occasional hiccup sometimes. Tweaking the ini files can make the game look a whole lot better but at the cost of stability and other dodgy business. Despite some technical issues I think it's the best platform to play it on, even if you don't get a good frame rate.

I can run The Witcher 2 with these settings. Only difference between these and ultra is ubersampling. I get probably a 40FPS average, and holy shit does it look amazing. One of the best looking games ever. But in Skyrim, a game built on a 5 year old engine, I go from 60FPS looking one direction to >30 looking in another, and I can't seem to figure out why. I actually hunted down an area that was causing me to lag. It was a group of trees like any other I can look at and not get in frame rate loss.

Sorry to derail your blog >_>

I fell through the floor of a cavern and landed in between a group of enemies who wouldn't have considered me a threat had I come through the actual entrance. Other than that and texture issues, it's no big deal.
