In Oblivion I think they were useful for some super potion, but so far in Skyrim I haven't been using them for anything other than normal ingredients. I see them all the time, even for sale, so I dunno if they're that special.

I haven't found any use for them. I think they glow and make sounds just as a reference to their importance in Oblivion.

Keep the red Nirnroots but sell/use the green. They are not rare like they were in Oblivion.

You can make invisibility potions out of them and I think there's a quest to get 20 of them for someone.

Me either. This quest is gonna suck worse than finding those gems I stole from the Jarl's bedroom.

There is a woman in that Thief-city that wants like 20 green nirnroot. Other than that, they are not as special as they were in Oblivion.

I found my Red Nirnroot in a huge cave, don't remember why I was there tho.

The red nirnroot cave is part of the main quest I believe, so you probably wouldn't be there unless you are there for that.

Don't go look for them, just play the game normally and you will find most of them during quests.

Actually you can find them during only one really awesome Deadra quest.

If you're talking about Red Nirnroots you're mistaken.

They exist in Blackreach, which is an open cave area accessible from multiple Dwemer lifts in The Pale/Winterhold area. You go there as part of the main quest, but it should be open beforehand, and remains open after you leave.

Not sure if they react like regular plants, but they may regrow after harvesting if they do.

Finding 10 fire salts. Finding 24 of those crystals.

Annoying as hell. Hate quests like these -_- but I feel compelled to complete them.

No one seems to be selling fire salts though.

@Sjupp: Hermaeus Mora. Also this quest probably has the best reward in Skyrim.

You find them on the corpses of (rare) Fire Atronachs in the wild and near alchemy labs in dungeons/towns. Just keep every one you come across and you'll eventually find enough.

There is a quest for Crimson Nirnroot. You can find some in the largest Dwemer ruins. I don't remember the name of the location, but they grow everywhere down in that cave. They make the same droning noise as regular Nirnroot when you're close.

there's a nirnroot grower near one of the cities (i forget which one) who'll buy them from you. she also gives a quest to find 20 jazbays. they're incredibly rare. i've only found 2 after taking on the quest 60 some hours ago. the two i found were last night. now that i know what they look like, they should be a tad bit more easy to spot.

Aw, Green Nirnroots aren't as rare in Skyrim? I haven't eaten/used any for fear I was going to need them for later! (I'm somewhat of an alchemist)
