I enjoyed my time with it, but I feel that I was largely focused on the mystery and atmosphere when I played it the first time through. Playing it again made me realize how the majority of the gameplay was pretty basic adventure fare, down to the point of frustration where "REALLY? Using item X with item Y isn't the solution? But it makes sense! In my head!" situations came up once or twice, notably near the...I'd say 1.5 hour mark? I think the most interesting elements of that game surface when both the thematic elements and the puzzle elements intersect naturally, such as those puzzles which require you to activate ARID's locked functionality. Those are the most memorable, visually unique, and powerful moments in the game, I feel. But there is too much...'adventure gameness' between them. I know a lot of people complain about the shooting segments, but they are generally benign. They didn't play great, but at least it broke up the pacing a bit and gave the game a sense of danger.
That being said, I reaaaaally want to know more about the world the game has created. I'm really looking forward to what a sequel to this game looks like. We know the developers can nail the atmosphere and...mooost of the dialogue, I just hope next time the pacing and gameplay elements will be different/better.
Actually, at this point I hope that there even WILL be a part 2! Hopefully the Giant Bomb GOTY award gets them some "oomph" when negotiating with investors. I remember meeting one of the devs at PAX Prime 2014, and mentioning that I had picked up on the Humble Bundle, and he very candidly said "Yeaaah, we still don't know if that was a good deal or not". Here's hoping it was!
