    Overview

The Joker first appeared in the first issue of Batman. He was created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Jerry Robinson. He was a cold blooded murderer, plotting the deaths of his victims. He was originally only meant to be a one-time enemy, but due to his popularity, he has appeared in numerous Batman stories and 7 theatrical films. To this day, he has been Batman's greatest foe and his

most dangerous and unpredictable enemy. His origin has been a mystery even to the Joker himself because he has lied about it so many times that even he doesn't know. The most common origin plot is that he got involved in the mafia and was forced to become the villain "Red Hood". In the comic "A Killing Joke" it revealed one of the possible Joker origins, he was a failing comedian who worked at a chemical plant. He lost his pregnant wife the same day that he was helping some criminals as the "Red Hood" and was confronted by Batman. He then accidentally fell into a vat of chemicals after a brief fight . The chemicals deformed him making him look like he does today. These series of events caused him to go absolutely insane. From then on he became the psychopath known as the Joker. Since then, the Joker has been a thorn in Batman's side, killing and hurting those dear to the Dark Knight.

The Joker's reputation has labeled him as an insane chaotic murder, he is the villain that all other villains are scared of. The joker can constantly be found near the top of various greatest villains of all time lists.

In video games, the Joker has mostly been a boss, with his henchmen being the main enemies in his themed stage beforehand. However, with Lego Batman, players will be able to play as the Clown Prince of Crime himself, along with his girlfriend, Harley Quinn.

The Joker was a criminal. He came to Lacey Towers and killed Roman Sionis' wife. He took over his job and hired eight assassins to kill Batman for $50,000,000 on Christmas Eve. He was sent to Blackgate for info. There, he met Harleen Quinzel. The Joker, under the alias Mr. White, works with Doctor Penelope Young to create the Venom-derived serum, Titan. Supposedly a cure for insanity, the Joker instead intends to use the serum to take over Gotham with an army of super soldiers. At his party, the Joker injects both himself and Batman with the Titan serum, intending to duel to the death. Batman foils the plan by resisting the effects long enough to inject himself with an antidote he had earlier prepared. Nonetheless, Titan Joker attacks Batman on the roof of the asylum. Batman eventually wins, punching Joker in the face with his fist drenched in explosive gel. The Titan serum proves temporary, and Joker eventually returns to his normal self, although the process is painful.

Titan Joker combines the Jokers deranged mind with Bane's superhuman strength, along with razor-sharp, foot long claws. During the battle, he also employs a variety of explosives, as well as numerous henchmen. It is revealed that the effects of Titan have had a terminal effect on the Joker; no longer seen in the field, the dying Clown Prince of Crime watches over the city from a hidden apartment, with an IV bag and an oxygen mask keeping him alive while Harley serves as his nurse. He finally succumbed to the disease, killing him. Given that the Joker is one of the most popular supervillains, however, and the immortal nature of comic book characters in general, it is likely that this will not be the last we see of the legendary villain.

In Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, which, as the title suggests, pitted characters from the long-running Mortal Kombat fighting series against characters from Detective Comics Comics, the Joker was one of the characters representing DC. In the game's story mode, the Joker breaks out of Arkham Asylum and escapes to Gotham City, but is quickly defeated by Batman. However, he manages to slip away again while Batman is fighting Liu Kang. He didn't make it far before he ran into the undead ninja Scorpion, who promptly defeated the Clown Prince of Crime in a fight. Later, Joker joins Deathstroke, Catwoman, and Lex Luthor in a team of super-villains.

In the Joker's ending to the game's Arcade mode, he gains new powers from his time in the conjoined universe; with them he easily defeats Batman and takes control of Gotham City. Inspired by his time in the other universe, "Mayor Joker" starts up a tournament where captured prisoners are forced to fight to the death for his amusement with the winner facing the Joker at the end.

    Shang Tsung's
    Shang Tsung's "Bang! Bang!" Fatality.

The Joker's "Killing Joke" Fatality, in which he points a gun at his opponent's head and pulls the trigger, revealing a "BANG!" flag, and then produces a second (real) gun with which he executes his opponent, was one of the many aspects of the game edited to retain the game's controversial T rating. Notably, even though MK vs. DC is considered non-canon, the 2011 Mortal Kombat reboot contains a blatant homage to it. Shang Tsung's "Bang! Bang!" Fatality features the sorcerer transforming into an evil clown and then, frame for frame, going through exactly the same motions as the "Killing Joke" Fatality, except that the camera lingers on the victim this time, and instead of a single spray of blood, the other character's head explodes into meaty chunks.

He appears as the second guest character of Mortal Kombat 11 alongside the Terminator and Spawn.
