So I've heard.... or read, rather.

I honestly can't tell if you are being serious or not. I hope you are not.
Are you sighing at the idea of shoehorning multi-player into Last of Us?/sigh
Remember when people said this about uncharted 2. I believe both the single player AND multiplayer were great.
Oh fuck off. Aren't we passed constantly conplaining about multiplayer we know literally nothing about? And if you don't agree with my prior statement then I'll go with this
Final Fantasy XVI to have 8 player deathmatch multiplayer. -_- Ah well, that's the way the wind blows I guess. I do see having multi in a single player focused game as devs saying, "our game isn't worth $60, let's add multiplayer". *shrugs* I guess we will wait for Beyond and The Last Guardian to announce their multiplayer component.
Remember when people said this about uncharted 2. I believe both the single player AND multiplayer were great.Yeah, no shit Sherlock. Naughty Dog does great multiplayer. Why is this a thing?
@Napalm: Who the hell cares? As long as they don't shy away from making the single-player experience phenomenal, why is it a death sentence for some that a game has multi-player. You're literally crying to the masses that variety isn't the spice of life. Just don't use it, Jesus.

I'm not. Skipped Mass Effect 3 for similar reasons. If you don't like something voting with your dollar is the only way you can make your opinion voiced. I'm through with companies not being confident enough in a single player product to ship it on its own merits without some sort of extra bulletpoint on the box. So fuck them I'll give my money to someone else.

You'll be able to turn into a swarm of tiny Ellen Pages.
But she won't actually do anything. She'll just sit there and be apathetic as Ellen Pages are know to do. Also how is this news to anyone, it's Naughty Dog, of course they'd add multiplayer.
do we have any reason not to trust naughty dog with this?
Uncharted turned out great, mp and sp.
Please stop complaining about things we know nothing about, this is a reaction to what the video game market has become and naughty dog has put it to good use in the last two uncharted games.
Lets give them a chance to answer the "what can you tell me about ze multiplayer?" question before we start judging.

Fair enough. Bummer that you will miss out on some singleplayer experiences. Unfortuantely I think that more people will pay for games that have multiplayer than games that do not which makes your little stance sort of pointless because it will not result in any change. Not trying to be a dick at all but it seems that missing out on some great single player experiences for the sake of not making any impact on where the industry is going seems kinda pointless. Unless you actually do play games that have multiplayer and are making no sense.

So, you're tired of companies making stupid decisions that cost them millions when their product doesn't ship in the end. I'm pretty sure that a company just recently played Titanic because their game didn't sell enough. This is 2012, people don't buy games for single-player only any more as much as they use to. This "trend" is what we call evolution of a product. People found that persistent online play with their buddies is something they desire.
All I can see from this is that you either
1) Deny yourself of a good game for an extremely obtuse reason to support your theory of "speak with your wallet." (Which will never work when you're a minority),
or
2) Never really cared about the game really in the first place, so you're just using your typing skills to pretend like we should care that you're denying yourself (what is obviously a good looking game) for the sake of being part of that crowd.
TL;DR: Welcome to 2012 buddy, much like arcade-games, things evolve.

You know most of those are totally optional right? (well there might be a debate in the case of ME3) , but I don't think is enough reason to shy away from great games , Uncharted 2 has it did you skip that one too? because I'm pretty sure that game stood out to most people for it's single player while also having a fun multiplayer component, I don't think is fair to compare other companies track record on it's handling of a franchise and multiplayer with others that have been successfully doing it.
Really guys? Really? You're going to complain about a trend that has been happening for years now? Also, last I heard Uncharted's multiplayer was actually good. So calm down and relax and maybe check out the multiplayer before you whine about it? Oh wait this is the internet, you guys will complain about anything.
i just don't like how multiplayer needs to be a requisite to release a game these days. for me, games are singular experiences, much like a film or novel. i rarely appreciate them superimposing the gameplay side of a journey i just finished just because that's what's done nowadays, that's what will bring the people. for me, gameplay is not the main focus in a game like the last of us (or most other narrative-driven games) as it is in, say, god of war (the whole point of which is to have fun killing loads of mythical beasts. and it IS fun). so focusing on this side of things just to beef up a game like this just seems really shallow and kind of missing the point, to me.

you seem to automatically equate multiplayer with competitive shooter deathmatch-type gameplay.
maybe they thought of some co-op variant like survival challenges or even full campaign co-op?

On a scale from 1 to 10 this is just stupid. See above for a non-asshole reaction to a statement like this.
It's a kneejerk reaction to complain about MP in games like Last of Us, but it's a Pavlov's dogs deal after seeing the shoehorning of shitty MP into games like Dead Space 2. People see it as a cynical cash grab, or as something that will negatively impact the campaign. Perception = reality ofttimes for those pursuing this hobby of ours.

I just find it hilarious that a game called "the last of us" can potentially have about a dozen people running around... lol
They'll have to change the title to The Last Sixteen of Us or something.
Honestly, I dont see it as an issue. The last two uncharted games had multiplayer, and they were alright. Didn't take away from the campaign.
@Yummylee said:
@DeF: They've said the campaign is going to be completely single-player, or at least Ellie will be permanently controlled by an AI. I'm almost certain that whatever multiplayer component they're cooking up will be separate from the main campaign.
Alright, I think I forgot that bit. Still, it doesn't give any reason for people to go nuts again just because they dropped the word multiplayer and that automatically means it's gonna turn into CoD.

Uhhhhhh.....okay guys. A dozen people running around is still not a lot of people. We're talking about a 12 of about 7 billion. Do you really think 'The Last of Us' really only means 'The Last 2 of Us?'
No. No it does not.
@ck1nd: Please. Nobody buys singleplayer anymore? What about the bajjilion copies of skyrim that sold last year or for that matter Batman:Arkham city? There are still high profile single player only games that release and do fantastic. And while it did slightly worse than the previous game Final Fantasy XIII-2 also sold well over a million copies. Single player still sells.
