@jsnyder82: fuck yeah!
The Last of Us
Game » consists of 11 releases. Released Jun 14, 2013
Joel and Ellie must survive in a post-apocalyptic world where a deadly parasitic fungus infects people's brains in this PS3 exclusive third-person action-adventure game from Naughty Dog.
Last of Us is video game's citizen kane says leaked review.
Most people shared a similar enthusiasm for Uncharted 2 and I thought that game was only ok.
I'm keeping my eye on the Last of Us, but I'm honestly not expecting a lot.
Ever watched Citizen Kane? It is sort of dull and most people would not find themselves 'clapping bravo' like some Orson Welles meme.
The game will be what it will be, I gather it might have slightly more subtle characterization as compared to Uncharted, and it will probably have a different tone from other action-adventure games. But, on the whole I don't expect miracles because a game is a game for the most part.
I'll tell you what though, if any studio is on it way step by step to making a significant entry in the genre, it is Naughty Dog. In five years I bet they will be producing what could be considered an 'high point' in the craft of game production. And, like any 'high point' some people won't like it; especially the people who like to wallow in the drivel we get now won't like were some triple-a game will be going.
ALSO: Best Movie ever is Seven Samurai (1954) or African Queen (1951). Both are fun, thoughtful, interesting movies with characters you give a damn about....and African queen has a steam boat in it!!!
Are you sure it's really not @citizenkane?
@jsnyder82: I never said that Citizen Kane or Casablanca are bad movies, I liked Casablanca enough to get some sort of special BD-edition, but they are over hyped titles. I have seen both many times but if I hear that some one says that they are best films in the world, I know that those people have not seen enough movies.
Ugh, I'm glad the game is fine, but why do writers have to keep trying to make these kinds of comparisons.
Are you sure it's really not @citizenkane?
I just meant that all my posts are secretly about a sled.
Has anybody actually seen Citizen Kane? Anytime anything is compared to that movie is a lazy analogy. There are better ways to say a game is worth people's time and money. I agree with sentiment that labeling The Last of Us as the greatest game ever made is premature. I have enjoyed the Uncharted games and I looking forward to what The Last of Us has to offer.
(1951). Both are fun, thoughtful, interesting movies with characters you give a damn about....and African queen has a steam boat in it!!!
What the fuck is Citizen Kane? Does it involve Kane the wrestler??
12 year olds pls leave

But does it have twice as many airboats as Gator?
It has leaches, german spies, homemade torpedos, shooting the rapids; and the toughest, most macho actor ever on screen...Katharine Hepburn.
I love Citizen Kane. I own the special edition that came out on DVD, I had this poster hanging over my bed in high school, and I have seen it probably more than 15 times since middle school. That being said, I always felt tat it was a watershed moment in film not really for the story or the emotional impact, but more for it's technical achievements. That's why I wonder why they are going there with the comparison. I love the film, but not really for it's engrossing story. I love it for the use of deep focus, the non-linear structure, and for the way it has influenced other films.
I think that's why it has been supplanted as the best film in the AFI list by Vertigo (which I like less than Kane, but that's just my opinion) and may fall farther down the list as times and taste change.
But yeah, great movie for what it accomplished on a technical level, maybe not so much as an actual enjoyable movie. So this comparison has me a bit worried, at least with how I view the film.
So it's the God Hand of Video Games?
It's on the Top 5 best video games that isn't the God Hand of Video Games.
It's ridiculous to call something a "Citizen Kane" before it's even released. A "Citizen Kane" would be something that brought new attention to the media, changed it forever and insured its artistic relevance. You can't determine that from playing the game a couple weeks in advance, and I'm also pretty sure a game with weird infected non-Zombies still won't convince the general populace that games are worth in-depth study.
That review is probably the Citizen Kane of reviews comparing games to Citizen Kane.
Also, Citizen Kane was an achievement in filmcraft and cinematography that really helped push the medium forward, since most earlier films were scripted and staged and shot like classic theatrical performances.
In order to be the "Citizen Kane of games" this game would need to present it's narrative in a new and meaningful way, using the unique storytelling techniques only available to video games as a medium (i.e. its actual gameplay mechanics)
So some no name site gives hyperbolic praise? Clearly not paid off. Also calling a game "The Citizen Kane" of gaming means nothing to me, considering I don't give a fuck about that movie.
@sweep: Metal Gear

well, if we think of it like that, then we should consider video games that distinguish themselves from other games (board games, card games, sports, etc...) and if that's the case, then that happened decades ago.
I doubt the reviewer even knows what that means. Citizen Kane revolutionized filmmaking from a technical standpoint, so if it's the Citizen Kane of video games it would have to leave a mark that would change the way we look at games and how they can tell their story. Don't get me wrong, I'm really looking forward to TLOU but I just can't get excited by these kind of reviews. Also if I were to believe every reviewer who have used the Citizen Kane line we apparently have a lot of groundbreaking games coming out every year.
But TLOU might be that game we just can't tell until we have played it. Gaming journalists are prone to hyperbole more than movie or music journalists, so I take everything they say with a grain of salt.
Persona 4 is Citizen Kane, go dammit I thought we all agreed on this?
Just more hyperbole with reviews but if it is that good then I'm glad I pre ordered it to show up on that day. Was starting to get worried that we haven't really heard anything about the game since like what? E3 last year?
Yeah, that's dogshit, considering the most vogue "Citizen Kane" of videogames right now is Bioshock Infinite and compared to Orson Welles's masterpiece it's kind of more a Transformers than anything else.
Quit comparing soppy videogames to cultural history please, it's embarrassing, next you'll be telling me that Infinite's approach to race was just a nuanced as Do The Right Thing.

Yeah, that Roger Ebert, man. He had both of those titles at the top of his list (not to mention, did the commentary for both DVDs). He must not have seen very many movies in his lifetime.
@jsnyder82: By that logic, because Jeff did not like Red Dead Redemption, that means that it is a bad game.

What is The Room of video games?
More importantly, what's the Mean Girls of videogames?
Quite a few disparaging comments about their pedigree, UC3 etc. Co op in UC3 had really good AI and difficulty settings and still play occasional 2 player split screen. Very excited to see what they will come up with, and very impressed with the sound design Ive heard so far
I saw another review that a guy got fired for writing and giving it a lower score(can't find the source anymore). It basically said that the game was a movie with an extremely linear storyline. He even commented that Heavy Rain gave you move of a choice than The Last of Us. I'm prepared for the worst...

No, you're thinking of Kane & Lynch, which stars video games' Citizen Kane
