I know I am! Part two's tend to be more action packed, so it should be at least a good ride. If it's a leap like Trails in the Sky SC was to the first one it'll be GOTY material.

Alright, a new Trails game is out. Who's excited?
My shipment's not coming in until tomorrow but that gives me a bit more time to finish up the first game. I think I'm pretty close to the end. I've actually had it since release but didn't put any real time into it until last month or so and just got hooked. I can't wait to pick right up in the second game.
I picked it up to complete my CS set, but I really need to get on SC since I finished FC in January.
I'm excited about this game but I am currently still paying through Trails of Cold Steel 1, about 50 hours in right now so I think I'm getting close to finishing it. September is going to be a horrible month for my wallet, going to be getting Spirit of Justice this week and Dragon Quest VII the week after that among many other titles, so I may end up waiting a while to purchase Cold Steel II. I also have yet to finish Trails in the Sky SC and I was thinking of maybe going back to that before playing Cold Steel II so I wouldn't be surprised if I don't get around to playing this until next year, which is unfortunate.
Beat 1 earlier this month and pre-ordered 2. Actually came in the mail last night and already put a couple hours in it. Probably one of my most hyped games this year to be honest.
Just checked out the screens for this since I wasn't familiar and there is a snowboarding mini game. Should be a JRPG classic.
I should be getting it in the mail tomorrow. I haven't played the first one yet though.
I did play through FC last December and bought SC earlier this year. Anyone have an opinion on whether I should play SC before starting Cold Steel 1, or does it not matter?
There are a few small references here and there to previous games, but you really don't need to play them to understand the current story.
My copy just arrived (wasn't expecting it until later this afternoon). I'm super stoked to jump in. Trails of Cold Steel was one of the best games I've played all year, and from what I've heard about 2 it sounds like the lovechild of Suikoden, Persona, and a dash of Xenogears/Xenosaga. If there ever was a formula designed specifically for me that would be it.
Im still halfway through the first game so I wont be getting this one for awhile. PS3 games get left behind, son
I wonder if the previous games will get ported to PS4 when the third comes out. There is some precedence for this series.
I hope it will get enough coverage by the main websites.
Unfortunately probably not except among a few jrpg specialists.
It just showed up in the mail, I'm done working until tomorrow, and the wife and boy are at her sisters for the next few hours. Time to go kick Crow in the ass a little bit.
With amount of "Where's all the JRPG's at?" threads that pop up around here, you'd think a series that started with such a great example of the genre would get a little more attention.
It's so good! I was slowly getting through the first one, then I had to pick up the pace last week to beat the first one before this one came out. I am actually really glad I did that, because that first game ended real abruptly. This new one's real good, though! I think it's up there with the new Persona games as being a great JRPGs in the modern age. I am also glad that this one doesn't have the weird thing where they're clearly at a military academy, but in practice it's basically a Japanese High School. I hear that this one drags in the middle, but I feel like most JRPGs do that, but I like the characters in this one enough that I will see if I can power through.
Also, as a Mecha Fan, I was pleasently suprised to see that not only where mechs in the game, but there was a whole mechanic for it. So good!
@thewildcard: How big an improvement is SC from Trails of the Sky OG? I might be able to power through the first game if the sequel is good.
I've just gotten to Act 2 after a little over 30 hours and the game has really opened up in a big way. Here's a bit of motivation to keep you chugging along:
[minor spoilers]
@zalrus9: I can't speak for the second game, but Trails in the Sky FC takes a long amount of time to really ramp up. I think Chapter 2 is where the story starts moving forward.
Otherwise, I think you can just start Cold Steel and you'll be good)
@zalrus9: Well "leap" is subjective, but to me it's the difference between a great game (FC) and a near masterpiece (SC). It might be only be a difference between an 8.5 and a 9.5 on a point scale, but the later pop up much less frequently. That said, while SC is better than the first game in most respects (battle pacing being the most immediate improvement), it's still not going to do that much for you if you think the entirety of the first one is a slog. Trails games are inherently slow burn, soak-in-the-narrative kind of experience.

A lot of fans seems to prefer the Trails in the Sky games, which I suppose I can understand if you have more of an affinity for more traditional SNES era JRPGs, but I have much more nostalgia for games like Suikoden and Persona, and Trails of Cold Steel shares a lot more in common with those games than Sky did. Trails of Cold Steel 2 take many of the best parts of CS1 and opens up a lot more. It is shaping up to be everything I want in a JRPG.
