The Matrix Online was an MMORPG that continued the story of the Matrix franchise past the third film, 'Revolutions'. Not Like This
Everybody dies? Nah, too cliche.
Architect stops in to say Wassup and next version of the Matrix is created? (With or without everybody dying.)
It's such a happy franchise! But the Bros need to segue into the next movie/comic somehow. May as well go over the top.
So there gonna ask Ryan to turn off the computer in his closet that's been running the one server that game still has.
Apparently SOE's endless pockets do have an...end.
Sad news for the guys who have been running the game; I always have a soft spot for little MMOs.
"Are you saying I can play Matrix Online?"
".. I'm saying that when you're ready, you won't have to."
Around the time Tabula Rasa shut down, I was talking with a friend about other failed MMOs and The Matrix Online came up. We were really surprised when we looked it up to see it was still online. This news is long overdue.
"You want to shut down the servers, Neo. But I can only show you the servers. You're the one that has to shut them down. "
"how did I beat you?"
"you're too fast!"
"do you believe that my being stronger or faster has anything to do with my muscles in this place? I merely pulled the plug? "
"As you can see, we've wanted to this for sometime, Mr. Anderson"
I'll stop now.
See whoever it was who debated me about failed MMORPGs? NOW you can say Matrix Online is over (and it lasted longer than old Tabula Rasa).
I love that a more obscure reference to the first movie was the tagline of this story.
Also, yes, long overdue. That's what they get for killing off Morpheus.
does anyone even play that game anymore?
I also am curious if this means SOE will start developing something new to fill in those servers. or will those just be shipped off to the DC Universe and/or Agency people? I always forget what a massive company SOE really is.
Odd. I was seriously thinking about the "Not like this" scene of the Matrix a few hours ago. Maybe it's redundancy is a glitch in the Matrix.
I'm surprised that this game lasted this long. I was in beta and a month into release and had some fun with some friends but after that it just became stale.
I still wonder why SOE hasn't closed down PlanetSide considering there hasn't really been any work done to it for at least 2 years.
And by shutting down the servers, they end the Matrix and thus the real Matrix Online begins. Think about it....
