In the end your character wakes up and is sitting at a desk playing the matrix online then it fades to white with the "I don't want to set the world on fire" song from Fallout 3.

Sad news for the guys who have been running the game; I always have a soft spot for little MMOs.

Around the time Tabula Rasa shut down, I was talking with a friend about other failed MMOs and The Matrix Online came up.  We were really surprised when we looked it up to see it was still online.  This news is long overdue.

I played that game for about 5 months about 3 years ago. It was ok. Sad to see it end.

Wow was not expecting this. I knew there would be a major closure in the MMO department this year, but I didn't think it would be MXO. What really boggles my mind is how can they close this down and still keep up that crap shoot that is Star Wars Galaxies.

So much potential...oh well. The game just couldn't recover from its rocky start and never got the proper amount of post launch content it deserved to keep it alive.

Well at lease there's going to be some sort of "ending", instead of just turning it off.  That way, whoever's left can say, "I finished it".

I doubt the ending will be as epic as that final invasion and horde fighting in Tabula Rasa.

I hope the final cinematic is just Agent Smith flipping the off switch.

all remaining players will wake up in the slime pods.  They will then realize they have really been playing the Sims Online this whole time...their avatars were just "jacked' in.  Now the game can finally begin!

See whoever it was who debated me about failed MMORPGs?  NOW you can say Matrix Online is over (and it lasted longer than old Tabula Rasa).

I didn't even know this game was still going.

I also am curious if this means SOE will start developing something new to fill in those servers. or will those just be shipped off to the DC Universe and/or Agency people? I always forget what a massive company SOE really is.

Odd. I was seriously thinking about the "Not like this" scene of the Matrix a few hours ago. Maybe it's redundancy is a glitch in the Matrix.

why was this game even made..?

I remember first hearing about this. I'm a huge Matrix fan (only the first one, 2 and 3 were meh). But then it came out and, "whoa..."

But seriously, I wasn't aware the servers were even still up. Time to move on and right the franchise. If that's even possible anymore.

I'm surprised that this game lasted this long. I was in beta and a month into release and had some fun with some friends but after that it just became stale.

I still wonder why SOE hasn't closed down PlanetSide considering there hasn't really been any work done to it for at least 2 years.
