    Overview

The Oregon Trail 3rd Edition: Pioneer Adventures is a educational historical strategy-simulation game developed and published by The Learning Company for Windows PC and Macintosh computers on November 1997.

The third numbered installment of the Oregon Trail series, and the sequel to Oregon Trail II, 3rd Edition has players forming (and then leading) their wagon party through the titular Oregon Trail in the year 1848. While much of the added mechanics from Oregon Trail II are not included, it features another revamped interface, and new first-person mini-games for river crossing, hunting, and fishing. Along with pre-rendered 3D graphics, this game is the first in the series to animate the NPCs as full-motion video, similar to point-and-click adventure games at the time.

One unique feature is its party system, where players form their wagon party with characters they meet in Independence.
