Was listening to the bombcast and was thinking, how many of ya read the manual during/before playing this game?

After getting frustrated with the combat and what not, I booted up the pdf and read it, cause you know, pc ass game has pc ass manuals. Haven't had a gameplay problem since. I kinda just wish the game 'tutorial' just told people to read up the manual instead of the weird thing they do.

I haven't played that particular game, but I always read the manual, and when watching Quick Looks, I often find myself wondering if they did read the manual. Like in the Conduit 2 one when all Ryan did was complain about the controls. I haven't played that game, but I specifically read in GameSpot's review that the game has classic controller support, which would have at least let Ryan play the game without complaining about controls.

What's the point in playing  FPS on the Wii with classic controller support?

@Gizmo: Not everyone has a 360, PS3, or PC that can play games. Believe it or not, but there are people out there whose only current gen console is a Wii, and I'm sure some of them would rather play something like Conduit 2 with a classic controller.

And the point I was making was that it would have allowed Ryan to judge the game not on its controls, and on the actual gameplay and stuff. And to a certain extent he was, but not as much as he would have if he wasn't constantly fighting the controls.

And even so, his problem in the video (well, one of them) was that the screen kept moving horizontally, even though he was within the dead zone box, and he skipped right over the option that would have let him turn that off.

I haven't played a game in my life without reading the manual front to back before starting, including The Witcher 2. For recent Ubisoft games that takes about 10 seconds.

    Same here.

Hm I always take a look at the manual of a physical copy of a game, but usually I don't "read" manuals. Pretty much every new game has a tutorial and there is no need to read them anymore.. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing, though.

I used to read manuals religiously as a kid, but at some point during the last generation I started getting frustrated because I'd just end up having to go through a tutorial anyway, so I don't think I've read a manual in the last 5 years or so.  Until Witcher 2, anyway.

Yep. Almost never do, but the game doesn't explain a lot of the systems (didn't play Witcher 1). Felt good to have a real, useful, paper manual in my hands again.

I have a habit of reading manuals while waiting for a game to install.

This is what I've been doing as well. I almost always flip through a PC or 360 manual while installing the game. Having grown up in the NES and SNES days where the manual was usually the only place you found out how to do certain things, it's a habit to at least glance through it if not actually read it.

Yeah.  To be blunt I always read game manuals but that's because I read them on the shitter.

Same here. It used to be just PC games obviously, but now I do the same thing with 360 games too.
