Some of them are nearly 20MB a piece. o_o

While not completely necessary, that is a link to a save manager that can help you clear space up. Lets you see what type of save(auto, quick, manual), the date, and what the loading screen looks like.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Game » consists of 16 releases. Released May 17, 2011
The sequel to 2007's critically acclaimed role-playing game, The Witcher. Players again take control of Geralt of Rivia in this story-focused adventure.
I have 1.7 GB worth of The witcher 2 saves on my PC
I was supposed to thin my saves out, but i'm just too lazy. Probably won't get around doing it until i finish the game. But yeah 20MB for a save game is insane.
Oblivion was the one game that I never saved over a save file, and I had like 500 saves, but it still didn't take up 1.7 GB!
I think only quicksaves overwrite. I had some 140 autosaves. So they won't overwrite each other after a certain number? I have over 300mb at the moment and i'm just in the beggining of chapter 1.

Yeah, they should have an in-game delete button and this wont be an issue at all.
It's not an issue for me either way, but yeah.
Yeah, my game actually crashed because I literally filled up all of the free space on my system partition with Witcher 2 saves, and it caused my video drivers to fail, haha.
The lack of an in-game save management feature isn't a huge deal (I prefer Windows to manage large numbers of saves anyway), but having the game create a new save every time you hit F5 was a pretty dumb oversight. Especially when each save can be upwards of 12MB.

its really easy to clean it out since they are in order numerically. i just go in and delete the the first 100 or so every now and then
So that's still a problem, huh? I remember Witcher 1 making a new save file each time you quick saved. Which was often, since it was an RPG with quicksave. That folder got huge! The quicksave is fine, it will overwrite your previous quicksave. The autosave however makes a new file everytime it initiates.

@Marz said:your unique then, because there are some people who actually want their quicksaves to act like the first game like in this thread@Beforet said:Mine doesnt. They didn't learn how to save data, did they? Witcher 1 had the same problem but I thought it was because they used the Aurora Engine... NWN2 had the same problem... Now with their new in-house engine this is unacceptable.
It's a design choice, not a failing. I actually prefer it this way because I like being able to go back to any single point that a save was created in games of this nature. I've made good use of it in both The Witcher and Far Cry 2 in the past.
THANK GOD. The way this game saves is ridiculous. It takes me 5 fucking minutes to open the load menu. I wouldn't mind if I could just mash delete on the files but it takes a while because you have to confirm every delete, man it sucks. I can't believe how awful the save setup is in the game. I just quick save anyway, I never want to use autosaves.
