@yi_orange: He's definitely not as devoted to his profession as Majima, but being a Witcher is Geralt's life, and most of what he does revolves around his role as a Witcher, even if he doesn't always choose the most Witchery path. Much like how Majima falls in love with and goes against the Yakuza to protect Makoto, someone he was hired to kill.

I like geralt but hes definitely not the main draw of the game, he is kind of a guide to get view of the world and lore.

@oursin_360: Man, I could not disagree more. Perhaps that could be argued for the first game, where he's basically an amnesiac for most of it, but he makes tremendous strides as a character of his own in 2, and then in 3 I'd argue he explodes to become one of the most vibrant, deep main characters in games in general. Not everyone adores the character as much as me, I understand that, but I think it's unfair, particularly in light of 3, to act as if he's not the main draw of the game at that point. His devotion to Ciri and how that is juxtaposed by his Witcher code is kind of the backbone of the story, after all.

I think they portrayed him fairly well. He could have shown some more sides other then his die hard stone face and rock facade but if you read between the lines you see that he cares deeply.

I don't like Geralt. I think he looks dumb, sounds dumb and he's too brooding and boring for my tastes. He's also just not fun to play as. Loved most of TW3 but he was definitely my least favorite character. Honestly would have liked the game a lot more if you just played as Ciri for the whole thing.

Geralt taps into the sarcastic edgy teen vibe that the Witcher occasionally strays into. He's a tough talking social outcast who's irresistible to most women and takes no shit. He's a cliché who works because the Witcher game's cynical grimdark world is crafted around that persona.

They do a really good job in the witcher 3 and its expansions of reckoning with the character and making him more three-dimensional. But I can definitely see where his harshest critics are coming from.
