I apologise if I'm a pain in the ass.

The system requirements thing doesn't have Witcher on its list. I'm 99% certain I won't be able to play Witcher 2 but it looks like it will eventually worm its way onto console. The game looks interesting and the QL of Witcher 2 got me interested in that universe. I'm not an avid PC gamer so don't know what specs are good/bad. I'm going to university soon and don't want to bring my console. Also if you could recommend some other games that would work with my laptop that would be much appreciated.

    CPU: Intel Core i5
    CPU Speed: 2.3 GHz
OS: Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
    Video Card: Intel HD 3000
    Disk Space: 399.GB
    Video RAM: 1.7GB
    Hardware T&L: Yes
    Pixel Shader Version: 4.1
    Vertex Shader Version: 4.1
    Directx: Version 11

If there is any inform ationI haven't posted that is needed let me know.

    Thanks in advance. =)

I have absolutely no idea about laptop specs, but reading those I'd take a guess with no.

Everything's fine until you get to the video card. Intel integrated video cards are terrible. That said though the HD 3000 is probably Intel's best attempt. You should be able to play the original just fine and the 2nd you should be able to play on the lowest settings.

Intel HD is shit basically. You'll maybe get a good framerate at the lowest possible res and settings.

I will probably never understand the philosophy behind prebuilts. What's with not slapping in a graphics card? For a laptop I can forgive it because of the limited space but I've seen desktop PCs with an i7-2600k and onboard graphics. I understand that they are most likely more aimed towards professionals and people who probably won't play too many games on it, but I've yet to find a prebuilt where the CPU isn't miles ahead of the graphics card either.

Really, if these onboard graphics were better or graphics cards started becoming a standard for laptops that'd really rock my world.

if you set all the graphical settings to low and play at 800x600 resolution, it will be playable.

This should be in the Witcher 2 forum.

For future reference, canyourunit.com is a good starting point. It automatically scans your hardware and compares it to the minimum and recommended specs and tells you if you can theoretically run it.

@RollingZeppelin: I considered it but I also ask whether there are any other games I can run.

Also to clarify I am wondering if I can run the Witcher enhanced edition NOT the Witcher 2.

So you believe the original will work.
I'll wait for a few more responses before I decide to spend my money (saying that it isn't much).

Overall impression seems I won't be able to run the Witcher Enhanced Edition.
    Some clarification please.

I don't know, havent played it myself or seen how it runs.  But maybe.

You don't list your total system ram.  I am sure that 1.7 GB of video ram is shared so I would bring it down to 1 gig if I were you.

It will probably run on low-medium settings. If anything I would suggest CanYouRunIt and if that doesn't work, see if there is a demo or pirate it; see if it runs well enough and then buy it. Yes piracy is wrong, bleh bleh bleh but if you are unsure if something will work or won't work on your computer that is what demos are for; if that option doesnt exist; make your own demo and pay the company.

CanYouRun it doesn't list it. I'd rather not Pirate I don't have the know how to do this.
I was just trying to get a feel whether I had a good chance of running the Witcher or not. It isn't a lot of money but I don't wanna waste it if I know it isn't going to work.

I will use CanYouRun it for other games so thanks =)

I have a laptop with the same integrated graphics and I tried Risen last night - it requires at least a GEForce 8800 or Radeon 2900.  I was able to play it.  It didn't look anywhere as good as on my desktop and some of the settings were set to the lowest possible, but it was playable.

Witcher EE requires GeForce 7900 or Radeon 1950, so I think you're good.

Minimum: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or ATI Radeon 9800 or better
You Have: Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
Upgrade Suggested: Unfortunately, your Video Card does not meet this requirement. Click here to see some recommendations.
Features: Minimum attributes of your Video Card

    Required You Have
Video RAM 128 MB 1.7 GB
    3D Yes Yes
    Hardware T&L Yes Yes
    Pixel Shader version 2.0 4.1

As someone with a top of the line mobile graphics card (gtx 460m), you do NOT want to play TW2 with an integrated card. Even my beast of a laptop can only play the game at minimal settings and low resolution. It runs well for me at that point, but your card simply doesn't have the horsepower to do it.

I have a tiny hp notebook on my lap at the moment, whose processor is so slow it can't run HD video; I won't be at home (where my gaming PC is) for another week.

My brother has just informed me that The Witcher 2 should be in my GOG account now.

    Fuck.

Edit: Want to take bets on whether I can get it to run in any way, shape or form?

I would guess that yes, you can run the original Witcher. What settings and resolution though, I couldn't tell you. You'll have to fiddle around a bit.

Good laptop games are the ones that require the less amount of mouse pad. VVVVV is good as is Poker Night at the Inventory. Any point and click is also good

I think youll be fine for it honestly, you failed the test cause the integrated card isn't on the list. For 20 bucks its worth trying, if you play on low settings or medium you will be fine. There may be tweaks as well like mods to reduce certain things to improve performance.

@PieGuy: Being able to run Portal well opens you up to all the other source engine games, each of which is among the best on PC (Half-Life series, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead). Based on that, I'd also wager you're able to run a lot of other games--including the Witcher--with medium settings, at the very least. Things like Call of Duty are probably out, but other games like Mass Effect are also a possibility. Check out as many demos as you possibly can before taking the plunge and buying stuff. Even if you can't find a demo for a specific game, another demo for a game with similar requirements could give you an idea of what to expect performance-wise.
