the fuck is with this game not called The Thief? blowin' it already.
Thief
The Thief franchise consists of a series of first-person "sneaker" games, where you play as a master thief named Garrett, in a large sprawling steampunk-medieval metropolis simply known as "the City."
Thief is Coming Back on Next-Gen Consoles (and PC)
Worse namen than Thief 4. Better name than Thi4f
And I don't even care cause it'S Thief and I want it NAO
Is Stephen Russell coming back to voice Garrett? I do hope so.
For the love of God Patrick, don't play Deadly Shadows. Play Thief 1 and 2 first. They're masterpieces, and they have their share of horror elements too.
So I'm all positive about the game, then I see this over at Gamespot:
"...the City is broiling with social tension as it is ravaged by a plague..."
Okay, okay, let's hope they're not stealing (thieving?) too much from Dishonored. But this sort of thing starts to make me worry.
It's not exactly an original concept and Dishonored doesn't own it. In fact, I'm pretty sure there's a zombie-like plague mentioned in Thief 1, and you even go into a part of town that was closed off and quarantined because of it.
Sound familiar?
Water arrows. Buy them all. Also Garrets voice actor, Stephen Russell, is pretty good. I was happy to see him in recent Bethesda games like Skyrim and Fallout 3. Hopefully he will return for this project as well.

Stealth? More like Suckealth, amirite or amirite?
I heard it on the Bombcast that "nobody likes stealth games." So yes, you are absolutely right, young man.
Call me a cynical piece of shit, but I have a feeling people are going to be disappointed with this game. Something along the lines of "water downed action ruining their favorite franchise." Not that I want it to be a bad game. I hope it turns out awesome and people get the kind of stealth game they want.
@pbhawks45: Why would you not play the original? There's no way you could understand the perspective people had on Invisible War without doing so. And if you thought IW was "fantastic", then why wouldn't you want to play the original as well? Especially with the way gamers are constantly beating you over the head calling it one of the best games of all time. Is that not enough incentive? Well, here's some more:
GO PLAY DEUS EX. YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF.

I kind of feel this way as well. We're more than likely going to see things that the fans of this series will hate.
I love thief! Thief 2 is my favourite game ever and Thief deadly shadows is the most important game of my young gameplaying life.
If theres any franchise I care deeply enough about to have an unreasonable reaction over the quality of a new game, it's thief.
I always have mixed feelings about unearthing venerable, beloved franchises.
Thief TDP, and II was what it was because of Looking Glass Studios, that right there turns me off of other developers getting involved.
I don't expect publishers to care about that, and so I do not get too excited when they bring back "classic" franchises. People are excited about Eidos being involved but they were only the publisher of the original games.
Now speaking of the Cradle, Shalebridge Cradle that is, the level is a mind fuck of unheard of proportions. What you hear about the level is scarier than the level itself, B U T that is the point, and the level W I L L scare and unnerve the crap out of you if you get to it.
It is very far along in the game, and Thief:Deadly Shadows is not the best representation of the franchise.
Taffer

If there's any team that can do it, it'll be the one that made a goddamn new Deus Ex game that most people really liked.

I've never understood the hate for DS. It wasn't the same as the first two, but fine for a person looking for a quick intro into the series who doesn't appreciate older games (even though it shows its age). All three games bring something to the table. Not sure if it's just the passage of time, but it does feel like DS could have used a bit more polish. Or maybe it's just the restrictions of the tech at the time. Putting the fence locations in separate zones, with no shortcuts between...yeah. That part really sucked. But on the other hand, that one part where the game actually lets you on rooftops, you're being hunted and you can hear them mind-talk about you and your location? Pretty good. Especially when you lead them into a faction controlled area that's friendly to you. Mwahaha. Anyway. That game had some flaws, but some pretty good parts too. And the fucking Cradle. But for sure, if one can get past the fact that it is damn old, the first game is pretty good. Best story of all three. Time to jump back into the whole series I think.
The bit about the plague is from DS, where the docks are closed off because of a zombie infested ship. Unless something like that was also in the first one. Anyway. I hope the Keepers are there in this version, but that description makes me wonder. Wasn't it their job to keep the balance of power in the City? The various factions and the City itself had so much character, it would be a shame if that wasn't preserved.
Were any of the Thief games ever on a console? Shouldn't "consoles" and "PC" be reversed in the title? #nitpicking2013
Oh yeah. Now next order of business: confirm Stephen Russell is still the voice of Garrett and Benny the guard returns in some form. Do that and I think I'm all set.
Why reboot? Just make it THI4F!
I dont want a fucking reboot! Get the old voice actor back & give it as epic soundtrack as the previous games had!

Yeah, I've been a fan of the Thief series since the beginning and I couldn't be more pleased that Eidos Montreal is making Thief 4.

From reading these comments, its getting way too much hype for it to not be a disappointment.
Deadly Shadows was a really amazing game. After playing Human Revolution I am excited to see what Eidos can do for Thief.
Call me a cynical piece of shit,
You are a cynical piece of shit.
I'd feel better if it was an Eidos/Irrational joint project, but even so I'm feeling pretty confident this'll be fantastic.
I miss Looking Glass.
Speaking of, you guys really should listen to the dev interviews. They contain a ton of intimate analysis of Thief: TDP.
