Overview
Thomas Downes is a minor character who plays a central role in the storyline of Red Dead Redemption II. He is one of the first loan shark targets, and becomes responsible for giving Arthur Morgan tuberculosis before he was beaten to death.
Red Dead Redemption II
Thomas is first introduced after a bar fight in Valentine spreads out onto the street. He begs Arthur Morgan to stop fighting before returning to his donation box across the street. He can be briefly interacted with at his donation box, and is heard coughing.
Debt Collecting
It is later revealed that Thomas is in debt to Leopold Strauss, and sends Arthur over to Thomas' ranch to collect the money. Thomas initially greets Arthur, before quickly realizing the reason for his arrival. When Arthur gets closer to Thomas, he attempts to threaten Arthur before he is beaten down.
Arthur makes it clear to Thomas that the debt needs to be paid back, who responds by spitting in Arthur's face. When Arthur releases Thomas, the dying man falls to the ground and his wife and son confront Arthur before he leaves.
Sometime later, Strauss reveals that Thomas Downes died soon after - but the debt still needs to be paid by his widowed wife, Edith Downes.
