Tiny Toon Adventures is the first video game to use the Tiny Toon Adventures license and is a standard 2D side-scrolling platformer for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The player, as Buster Bunny or one of three sidekick characters, must reach Montana Max's Mansion and rescue Babs Bunny.
At the open of the game, Buster Bunny is watching TV in his rabbit hole when Montana Max appears with a kidnapped Babs Bunny. Babs is hanging over a pool of sharks at Max's Mansion and Buster must rescue her.
The gameplay is similar to most action platformers of its time. The player must find their way to the exit before time runs out. If they take a hit, they lose a life, unless they have found a heart power-up.
The player can choose a helper character at the start of each level, and can switch with them if they find a star power-up. These helper characters, Plucky Duck, Furrball and Dizzy Devil, have special abilities that Buster Bunny lacks.
Each stage is filled with carrots. If the player finds 100, they earn an extra life. Opportunities to earn extra lives elsewhere are also available.
There are six worlds in the game, with three levels each with the exception of Wackyland which only has one:
- The Hills
- The Wetlands
- The Trees
- Montana Max's Mansion
If a player's carrot count is a multiple of eleven at the end of a level, a battle with Duck Vader is triggered. If the player can defeat Duck Vader and his two stormtwoopers they will get three extra lives. Duck Vader and the stormtwoopers are parodies of Darth Vader and the stormtroopers from Star Wars.
