Seeing as I'm still learning little tips and tricks you can do in the mutliplayer, I thought I'd make a thread for us to share that advice.

    - First off, I highly recommend that all players use the "Evolved" button layout. Being able to turn, jump, and slide without ever removing your thumbs from the analog sticks is extremely important in Titanfall. It completely improves the feel of the game, and it will feel impossible to go back once you're used to that level of control.

    - Even in the console version, you can now adjust your field of view with the FOV slider found in the menus. The higher the number, the more you'll be able able to see on screen at any given time. The default is 70, but you should play on at least 90 or so. You can go all the way up to 110, but things start to look a little too distorted before that point. The center of your screen will appear to be far away, and things will look like they're being viewed through a fish-eye lens. Enter a private match, and make adjustments until you find something that works well for you.

    - My highly subjective weapon Guide:

    Assault Rifles:

R-201 Carbine - The best all-around assault rifle, and arguably the best primary in the game. Good for short to medium range engagements.

Hemlok BF-R - Burst-fire assault rifle. Able to kill in a single burst, this weapon can feel very overpowered in the hands of a good player. Just don't miss.

G2A5 - Semi-auto with the best range of any assault rifle. What you lose in time to kill from the hemlock, you make up for in precision.

V-47 Flatline - A high damage weapon that suffers at range. Unpredictable left-right recoil means you'll be missing some shots, especially at a distance.

    Recommendations: R-201 Carbine > Hemlock > G2A5 > Flatline

    Submachine Guns:

CAR - The jack-of-all-trades machine gun. Has no real weakness or significant strength. The R-201 Carbine of the SMG family.

Alternator - This gun features the same high-damage, high left-right recoil of the flatline. Recoil at range can be mitigated by tapping the trigger, which makes this gun effective at most ranges.

R-97 Compact - Very high rate of fire, very high ammo count in each magazine, and the highest recoil of any SMG. Only effective in close quarters combat.

Volt - The highest accuracy in the SMG class. Effective at almost any range, but less effective up close.

    Recommendations: CAR > Alternator > Volt > R-97 Compact

    Light Machine Guns:

Spitfire - You'll have a huge magazine of ammo, but the horrible recoil makes this weapon easily outclassed.

L-Star - High fire rate, good damage, but still outclassed by most other weapons. The laser-beam nature of the weapon also makes you a very obvious target.

X-55 Devotion - Easily the best machine gun. Fire-rate increases as you hold down the trigger, and it's deadly accurate. When warming up, it's about as effective as the G2A5. At full fire-rate, it's unrivaled.

    Recommendations: Devotion > L-Star > Spitfire

    Shotguns:

Mastiff - Fun indoors, but the time between shots means that it's easily outmatched by the other shotgun.

EVA-8 - A much faster fire-rate and good accuracy means this is the way to go, if you want to use a shotgun.

    Recommendations: Eva > Mastiff

    Anti-titan weapons:

Charge Rifle - A charged beam weapon. A good balance of damage and range.

MGL Mag Launcher - An exchange of range for damage. This does a considerable amount of damage, but you'll have to get somewhat close to use it.

LG-97 Thunderbolt - Lowest damage in class, but the area of effect makes it by far the safest anti-titan weapon to use. It's also the only anti-titan weapon that can hit multiple titans with each shot, making it arguably the best choice for quickly earning your own titan.

Archer Rocket Launcher - Probably the most damaging anti-titan weapon, but it requires a lock-on that will leave you exposed. It's the high risk / high reward anti-tian weapon.

Recommendations: Thunderbolt > Charge Rifle > Mag Launcher > Archer.

    Other tips:

    - Bullets can shoot through teammates, friendly titans, and enemy Titans. The only Titan that fires bullets is Legion, which means he can also shoot through friendly Titans. You should remember this the next time you think a teammate is blocking your shots.

    - You can emergency eject from your Titan at any time. You don't have to wait until you're doomed. This is done by pressing up on the d-pad, and then ejecting like you always would. This can be useful for a few reasons, but perhaps the most useful is if you know you're about to be killed by a nuclear explosion. If you use slow titans with limited dashes, this can be a literal life saver. The same is true when you're cornered.

    - One other good use of emergency eject is during the evacuation epilogue when playing on the losing team. For an easy and safe way to evacuate, get to the drop ship and move your titan directly under it. Fight off the enemy Titans for as long as you feel safe doing so, and then simply eject directly into the ship.

    - You can stop a pilot from emergency ejecting, by throwing a gravity star at the cockpit. The rather surprised pilot will fall straight to the ground for an easy kill.

    - If you use electric smoke grenades, you can play a trick on enemy pilots when stealing batteries from their Titans. Simply hop on the Titan, and if the enemy uses electric smoke to remove you, immediately hop off and throw your own electric smoke at the Titan. There's a good chance the enemy will take damage for a few seconds, as they'll want to remain in their own smoke to kill the pilot on their back, and they won't realize why they're taking damage.

    - Defying the logic of pretty much every other modern first-person shooter, some SMGs are actually more accurate when hip-firing than the same weapon is when aiming down the sights. To test this, fire your gun into a wall, and watch the bullet spread when aiming and not aiming.

    - This might be obvious to most, but it didn't occur to me until recently. Titan executions are more than just cool looking, they're by far the most efficient way of killing both a titan and its pilot. As far as non-core attacks go, only a fully charged Northstar shot can kill a doomed titan. Every other titan needs to attack several times to finish a doomed titan, or they can simply dash in a go for the melee kill.

    - Firing a weapon will remove you from cloak, but the same is not true for using your ordinance.

Anyone else have some cool tricks or tips that they'd like to share?

    - You can rocket jump/boost with the EPG.

    - You boost yourself with the explosion of your own Gravity Star.

As Ion, any bullets caught in vortex shield deals more in splash damage to titans than direct hits. If a Legion is wailing into you with its Predator Cannon and you have vortex shield up, try returning the bullets on the ground next to it as if you were shooting a rocket at the Legion's feet.

Subsequently, as Ion, don't return bullets caught by vortex shield directly at titans at point-blank range. You'll probably doom yourself and not your enemy if you do.

This is very useful to know. I'll have to look for some videos, so I can get an idea of just how much more powerful the splash damage is over a direct hit. What an odd game mechanic.

One fun tip I found by accident the other day is a great way to kill enemy snipers. If a player keeps setting up in the same elevated sniper perch--whether they're using an actual sniper or just a long-range primary--switch to Northstar with threat optics. They'll be highlighted in red, and very easy to kill. If they're an actual sniper, chances are they'll be using a pistol secondary, making it a completely one-sided fight.

And here's a useful tip for Scorch. If you fire your primary into a wall, it will explode and your fire will fall to the ground. Without moving, if you fire a gas canister, it will follow the same trajectory. You can use this fact to setup a fire trap behind a Tone's shield, or get a fire trap into otherwise hard to reach areas.

Speaking of Scorch, here's arguably the definitive guide to that titan, as well as a beginners guide to all titans:

As someone who has now "mained" a Ronin for 30+ hours, now usually getting to the top-3 with the most titan kills, here's some useful stuff:

    - Ronin is a class built on flanking. You will almost always die in a direct attack. Almost all spots on all the maps have valid flanking positions and titans tend to not wildly look around themselves. If you see a side or a back turned to you, just sprint after it.

    - When approaching another titan from the side, you can usually empty the Leadwall into them and throw one or two attacks before they sufficiently respond. Then sprint or phase shift through them to attack them on yet another side.

    - If a titan sees you approach and attempts to run, the arc wave will slow them down significantly. Most titan types have only one sprint charge by default. If you see them use it, arc wave them. They won't be able to avoid it.

    - When you're not in direct combat, always conserve one of the two sprints you have, OR keep your phase shift charged. You will often need to run past something nasty, be it a titan's line of sight or a trap. Ronin doesn't run faster than the other titans (I don't think?) but it has a much faster acceleration, allowing you to get a good head start on any pursuers by starting with a sprint.

    - DO NOT phase dash inside other titans. Though it might seem cool, you can't telefrag them, but you'll just blow up yourself.

    - Phase dashing will not remove a rodeoing enemy pilot, however it will remove any tethers you have. For rodeo players, if you don't have the electric smoke yet, either try to get out and dispatch of them ASAP, or take the hit. If you do the latter, you can usually slash them to bits unless they're using phase dashing themselves, in which case you can still usually chase them down if you need to to get your battery abck.

    - When you see an enemy pilot, don't shoot them by default if they aren't aware of your presence. Use your sprints to get close to them and use your sword. The Leadwall has poor range unless you're very close. And if you're very close, you might as well slash them to bits because you don't want to have to reload that gun too often.

    - The Ronin sword can slash through some geometry. If you see a guy in a building, you might be able to kill them through the walls.

    - Playing a Ronin means understanding that all good things come to an end. All of us must embrace the finality of our existence at some point, and god dammit will Titanfall 2 teach you that right now. Equip yourself with a nuclear ejection. When you're close to death or doomed, attempt a phase shift into as many enemies, titan or not, as you can see, and nuke them all. If you're lucky you'll get another Ronin in no time thanks to all the build time you rack up.

On a non-Ronin recommendation, not a lot of people seem to acknowledge that Low Profile is a thing. I strongly advise for unlocking it and using it as much as possible. Stealing batteries is real good at diminishing build time, not to mention useful if you're using something like a Ronin so you can just soak up more damage. Or give it to a teammate's titan to diminish even more build time. Most people don't seem to quite get what's going on until you're long gone, at least if you're using a Stim.

Putting nuclear ejection into the game in the first place was a questionable choice. Allowing a titan suicide to instantly earn a new titan was downright stupid. Thankfully, you can always eject early to prevent that, as I explained in my first post.

Maybe you already know this, but it's a good tip for anyone who doesn't. By simply holding down the block button during a phase dash, you can make it impossible to telefrag yourself. Instead of blowing up your own titan, you'll just teleport to the enemy titan location, and safely push them away.

That was a good guide to Ronin, though. Thanks for sharing.

Here's a tip: If you enjoy Titanfall and short animated videos, you should definitely check out TitanToons. It's a side project from one of the animators at Respawn, and episode four was just released today.

So I'm reaching two days in game time with this now. I've mostly stuck with Ion because I like it a lot and I think I've gotten pretty good with it. As such, here's how I handle other Titans and Pilots when playing Ion.

For reference, I use Ion with the extra dash, Vortex shield and Dome. If there's no Legions playing on the other team, I change Vortex to the option that lets you replenish energy when you score a critical.

Ion Vs Northstar: Most Northstar players don't like this match up. The speed of Ions laser shot and the dash ability mean that you'll likely out-sniper the sniper. If you're ever without your dash, throw your shield up when you see them shoot. Northstars weapon projectile is physics based and has to travel to you, giving you time to catch it in your shield and toss it away. If you've a laser core and you see a Northstar use their VTOL ability then enjoy your free titan kill.

Ion Vs Tone: Probably the hardest match up. Don't get too trigger happy with your laser shot because you're going to need your shield to catch rockets. Learn how to count to two and three. If you get caught by Tones sonar ability, you've probably been shot twice and now missiles are coming. Just chip away with laser shot, dash away and keep a mental track of how many shots he's hit you with. Laser core whenever you want really, preferably after you've sent a volley of missiles back.

Ion Vs Scorch: Just dash. Scorch is easy to deal with so long as you don't get close. If you get close you've made a mistake. Scorch has a nice big critical spot that's very easy to hit. Lots of Scorch players like to try get close and will just walk at you with a shield up. Use your tripwire mines and they'll often walk right into them. Scorch is so big that Laser Core is easy to hit him with, again, just make sure there's distance between you as you're slow and cant dash with the core active.

Ion Vs Ronin: Again, you have to get away from him. Dash is very important here. But more important than dashing away is dashing towards him when he phase shifts. That will increase your distance from them, they'll have to spend time turning around. Also dash sideways when they use their ground AOE attack. It hits in a straight line and a dash with easily take you away from it. Ronin is the only Titan I really bother using the spreader feature on my gun with because you don't really need energy for Vortex Shield and a good Ronin player will be hard to hit with the laser shot. Laser cores will usually just send them running, but if you get behind a Ronin that's distracted then your core will take them out.

Ion Vs Legion: I love Legions. Legions like to spin up their gun and shoot as many bullets as their little hearts will let them. Unfortunately for them, they die to those bullets. Never use anything but Vortex Shield on a Legion. Don't waste your energy on anything else, no spreader, no laser. Shoot him to get his attention, wait for him to wind up and then hold your shield up until he stops. Then aim at his feet, throw the bullets back and enjoy putting him in a Doomed state. Then do the same again or shoot him with your Laser Core that you've just earned. However, never ever use a laser core against a full health or non-doomed Legion that's looking at you and shooting you. He'll kill you before you kill him.

Ion Vs Pilots: Ion has one huge strength and several weaknesses against pilots. His huge strength is that the laser shot is hit scan and you can very easily pick ejecting pilots out of the sky with it. Doom their titan, watch them eject and then track them and laser them out of the sky. Also useful for pilots that aren't paying attention to you. His primary gun isn't amazing against pilots though. You sort of need to use the spreader feature on it but that's risky because now you're low on energy. Punching them always works. So does running over them. One thing that actually works well is to throw tripwire mines near doorways. A lot of pilots will run out of a door without paying much attention and run right into them and blow up.
