Just thought a thread with gameplay tips, obvious and the not so obvious, would be a good idea. As awesome as Tokyo Jungle is, it doesn't offer much instruction for success. I can get us started:

You can dodge (right stick) after a stealth/instant kill (R1) to avoid the animation. Great to take less damage when fighting a pack. Alternatively you can hold triangle to have your pack attack while the animation plays out.

This works for carnivores, but while you can dodge once with most herbivores you'll still be stuck in a recovery animation post kill. Hippo recovery time seems to be slightly shorter and Hippos/Elephants/Mammoths are largely invincible with base stats anyway.

Tip: Stockpile jerky for "Territory capture" missions unless you think you can kill 25-30 of whatever animal; kite the mass around in circles and chain dodges to get a window for capturing territory.

@Fredchuckdave: I haven't played any of the grazers yet, thanks for the correction.

Alternatively, if you're having trouble with a Territory Capture mission, you can get your breeding requirements done early, and go around marking all the areas you can. When you mark a satisfactory amount (I try to claim 2-3 territories) you can complete your last challenge requirement to activate the Territory Capture, the new animal will unlock automatically if you get lucky and it appears in one of your pre-claimed areas.

I haven't played much but using the right analog to move faster than running helps you cross the map in shorter time. Also getting underground in toxic areas can save your butt.

@dennisthemennis: Yeah the Sewers and Yoyogi Park Under are really handy ways to get around quickly. From the eastern end of Shibuya Woods there is a Sewer entrance. Inside, if you go north-east there is a fast travel that will take you directly to Yoyogi Park Under/East; super handy. The sewer entrance for Shibuya Station needs to be found from inside the sewers before you can go the other way.
