Zero hype behind it, but it's reveiwing extremely well.
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Game » consists of 13 releases. Released Aug 20, 2013
The sixth installment of the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series and follows the events after Splinter Cell: Conviction.
Blacklist seems to be the sleeping dogs of this year.
After watching the Saints row quick look im going to skip it. and might get Blacklist. it looks really interesting.
Yeah, I noticed that, too. I was planning on getting Saint's Row IV next week, but I think I might wait on that and pick up Blacklist instead. Part of that might be nostalgia considering that Spies v. Mercs in Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory has been my favorite multiplayer experience, but Sessler's review (above) sold me pretty hard, too.
I've always been somewhat excited for it. I'm hopin to catch a quick look to make my decision, I think that's all the push I need
I get what you mean if you frame it that way, but Sleeping Dogs got zero hype because it was a new IP with a troubled development history. This is a game that is from a long franchise and it's been marketed to death, I just think the core fans think it'll probably be bad, which may prove wrong here.
@sunbrozak: - wink-
Really surprised by the BlackList reviews but pleasantly surprised. It'll probably keep me busy with Saint's Row 4 until GTA V.
I've been hyped for it for a while, loved all the Splinter Cell games (except Double Agent that game wasn't great).
I really disliked Conviction, this looks kind of like that so it makes me hesitant, it looks awesome I just wonder how it will play and how long it will be. Sessler makes it sound like it plays better, I found the level design in Conviction to be pretty bad, so I might change my pre-order from Saints Row to this.
Mulitplayer looks cool, but who the hell want's to play as Sham Fisher? It's such a disconnect for long time fans, he's supposedly older but with a younger voice and an even more agile move set.
To me that's an iconic voice you don't mess with, or if you have to you try to get as close as possible. (Ex. new joker)
If it wasn't such a story focused game it wouldn't matter.

Review makes it seem really terrible. Last level is one giant quick time event?? The single button context sensitivity is bad? And the story sucks?? smfh
Spy's vs Mercs looks like the only compelling thing about this game, wish it was in Conviction
Wait it's actually good and SR IV is kind of disappointing people?
@oursin_360: You're right. Maybe he thought "this game is really terrible, I think I'll just give it a 4/5."
All I care about is freedom of gameplay, and Sessler is really stressing that there's a lot of that in there.
I'll keep my eye on this game.

Not sure what your trying to say? What he says in his review, and the score he gave are 2 completely different things. He thinks the good level design and Spys vs Mercs make up for the mediocre controls and bad story, I don't. I mean maybe it does, but it's not enough to convince me on a full price buy.

Makes it seem really terrible? Sessler constantly says how well designed the levels and maps are and gives it a 4/5.
OK THEN
I'm excited and I'm sure a lot of other people are, but don't expect the GB guys to give a damn about it (or even a quick look). Well maybe Vinny will take a brief gander since I remember him talking about playing SC back in the day.
The first 3 splinter cell games all sold very well and reviewed great, so I'm glad this might live up to the legacy. Can't wait for August 20th!
@vinny_says: I remember Pandora Tomorrow being quite bland. But back then I didn't have xbox live.
I'm definitely hoping to get around to playing this when it gets a bit cheaper. I never played any of the Splinter Cell games until I recently bought the HD collection last year. I loved the original and Pandora Tomorrow.
Too many games coming out and not enough time or money. Between NHL 14 and GTAV next month, and this and the new Saints Row, not sure what to end up picking up.
It's been looking very good for quite some time. Things like ghosting levels and moving bodies are things that sounded like they were going in the right direction.
It's just the lack of Ironside that's been a problem for me.

Or just make it his successor or something. I know Sam Fisher is a popular character, but isn't Splinter Cell really the brand here? If you have to get a new voice actor and want to make him more agile despite the fact that in universe Sam Fisher is too old, why not have a new protagonist and have Sam act as your Lambert-esque guide?
Not really an apt comparison. Sleeping Dogs was a new IP and it had a troubled history. People didn't expect much. This is the new Splinter Cell game, pretty sure everyone expected a quality game. So far it's just as well received as Conviction was.
This is one of those games where the amount of advertising ruined any anticipation I had. I just want it to go away at this point. I'll probably try it during a steam sale or something.
I'm also getting a Gears of War: Ascension and God of War: Judgement kind of vibe from it.
I loved the first Splinter Cell, until I fucked up. Add some bad checkpointing to it, and an increasing lack of patience on my behalf - and that's how I lost all interest in the franchise (and the genre, for the most parts). Looks good, but I only enjoy stealth in the context of much broader experiences - like Skyrim or Deus Ex. Stealth games per se only work for me, if I'm playing as a Ninja.
Where's that Last Ninja reboot anyways?
