I thought I remember them making Lambert's death canon.  Specifically because I remember some really annoyed people.

From what I've heard (I've only played the current-gen versions, so I don't know for sure), you can't save him in the last-generation versions, and since those presumably are the ones that are canon...

The accepted storyline, I guess? Tough to describe. Unless you're kidding, in which case, well played.

I'd doubt it, especially if they did make his death canon.

Importing saves into SC:C, you heard it here first.

@Zidane_24: I'd be sad to see Lambert go as he is personally one of the most memorable characters that I've encountered, in my short video gaming history.

Importing saves would be a nice idea though I'd prefer it to have more meaning than the death, or life, of one support character.

Ubisoft kind of backed themselves into a corner with two very different versions of Double Agent focusing heavily on multiple choices.  The 360 version had a few different ways the game could end, but the original Xbox one had a single ending which was way different than anything else.  I don't even think Lambert could die in the Xbox version, and if he could, it was in a very different way.

Yeah, all the ambiguity in the world could not cover all the events and endings.

Yes he's dead. Even the companion novels by David Michaels(Splinter Cell: Conviction and Splinter Cell: Endgame), which stories were collaborated on with Ubisoft  state that Lambert is dead.

In Double Agent, you were given the choice to shoot him or save him by shooting the guard in the room watching you.

If you saved him: Lambert is left alive in the holding room and is assumed safe because backup is coming.

If you shot him: The guard leaves the room and when Sam goes to examine Lambert, Lambert is alive. He tells Sam to stop the terrorists and Sam tells Lambert he'll be ok since help is coming.

Soooooo it seems he lived either way

Also, the probably viral thirdechelon.eu sheds a bit of light - though that could be a red herring.
Don't count the novels - they aren't canon.

Novels based on specific splinter cell games aren't canon? Damnet. Oh well, its fun to read, even if it doesn't mean anything to the series...

The Lambert thing bugs me because I thought it was a totally obvious choice. Of course Sam would save Lambert, because he goes and fucks up all the terrorists afterwards no matter what choice you make. But then again, if Lambert died in some crazy way in the last-gen version then that could explain it.
