I'm curious as to why they give you the option to start at the wave of your choice? Does that mean someone can go about starting at wave 15 on every map and still get the achievement? I'm working towards it now and I don't want to work anymore than I have to.

Yup, you can start at wave 15 and it'll count. I've been going for these for a few days, and I completely see why they put the option in. The full 20 rounds can be very long, especially if you're playing with randoms and don't have your strategy down. Usually, in that time, someone will quit or get disconnected, and having to play again through it all again would be really frustrating.
