    Graphically competent but boring 0

First of all, let me get the positives out of the way: this game looks very good. A lot of the environments are lush and give a nice sense of scale. Unfortunately, this is let down by the abysmal camera work. This development team have done some wonderful things with camera work in the past (Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 comes to mind) but here I found myself constantly in opposition with the camera, almost as if it were fighting against me at times. This in turn made the gameplay even more frus...

    Still no nude code. 0

It’s never easy to see an old girlfriend out and about with her new guy. Now imagine that she looks better, acts smarter, and is just in general a happier person then she was before. CORE, if they even still exist, was never good enough for Lara; she was just using them to get attention, and perhaps to pay for a few enhancements. Crystal Dynamics, on the other hand, knows how to treat a lady with big guns: with respect, bump mapping, tight pants and sensibly spaced sequels. Tomb Raider: Underwo...

I am surprised at how broken this game is 0

I have not completed Tomb Raider: Underworld. I grew too frustrated with it. I was not having a good time. Moreover, there was one major glitch I encountered that broke the game for me. Naturally, this experience has colored any opinion I have about the game. If you do not think it is right for someone to write about or review a game they have not completed, then you should not read the following. Underworld frustrated me beyond belief. As I said, it is what I assume to be a glitch that ...

    Tomb Raider: Underworld REVIEW 0

COMPLETED THUS FAR: 100% (Main story, including both Beneath the Ashes and Lara's Shadow DLC)PLATFORM PLAYED ON: X-Box 360(Edited 01/09/12: Removed dead youtube links.)NOTE: From the videos I've seen, the Wii and PS2 versions of Tomb Raider: Underworld are designed differently than the PS3/360/PC versions. Obviously there's a difference in poly count and textures, but also the game is so bright in the Wii/PS2 versions compared to the others that I'm not sure if the flashlight is even necessary, ...

Oh, Lara. Will you ever learn? 0

There was a time when Lara was a driving force in the games industry; she was recognised universally by men and women alike and became a household name across the globe. She also became a gaming icon in the process, catering specifically to the casual market that were intrigued to play as a strong-willed, kick ass heroine and, essentially, helped shift millions of Sony Playstation’s worldwide. But, my, how the mighty have fallen! Indeed, she managed to recoup some of her popularity back with t...

Sadly riddled with bugs, but still a decent TombRaider experience 0

A few first impressions after playing Tomb Raider: Underworld for an hour or two. The graphics are pretty nice, they capture the feeling of scale pretty well, frame rates however aren't so great. Animations feel pretty broken in this one, some things such as diving into the water just look plain wrong and looked much better in previous parts. In addition collision detection is pretty wonky, you clip through other objects quite frequently and it just feels pretty buggy overall and not as smooth a...

Dig a tomb for this franchise 0

I don't think the Tomb Raider games have ever been good. Like, ever. They've never looked like the sort of quality game that I could embrace and point to as something appealing. Which is funny, because Naughty Dog basically took the Tomb Raider theme, made a gender change, and put out 2 really great games. That's kinda sad when you think about, that it had to take some pretenders to the throne to actually make good games. Lara's a sex symbol in gaming, that's quite obvious. But th...

    Tomb Raider: Unremarkable 0

Tomb Raider Underworld is an enjoyable game that has a few problems both artistically and technically. If you want to just start up the game having never played a Tomb Raider before you will be greeted by a cast of characters that you know nothing about. As the first mission loads there is a tip that all the backstory for these characters is in a video in an Extras section at the main menu. Telling you this now is a little late given that you are already loading the first level. At no point durin...

    Tomb Raider: Underworld 0

I'm not sure how I would have reacted to this game when it came out a few years ago. The game would have still been extremely glitchy, but it's hard to say if it would have been as unacceptable then as it is now. Were the two Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider games from the previous generation as buggy as this? They were still fresh in my mind back then. They probably couldn't be, because the fact that they were actually totally playable is what saved the series from getting completely buried....

    JUMP! 0

Tomb Raider Underworld is the first Tomb Raider game I've played in a LONG time. The last one I played was one of the original Playstation titles and I wasn't too good at them at all (too young I guess =P) which probably made me not want to play one again. I recently bought this game in a bundle (this, Fuel and Sega Superstars Tennis) all together for £30 which all went to charity so I was a bit skeptical about it(although I did watch a little game play video and it looked like great fun). I boo...

Tomb Raider: Underworld - A Return to the Roots... Sort Of. 0

Throughout the last decade there have been a lot of Tomb Raider games. Some would argue that there have been too many and that the series should have died out ages ago. With eight major titles and a remake (plus countless portable titles), Lara Croft has had a lot of epic and not-so-epic adventures under her belt. She's been through two developers and is currently transitioning to new management under Square Enix, who recently bought Eidos and all of its assets. With all of the drama the series...

    Tomb Raider Underworld Underwhelms 0

It is impossible to talk about Tomb Raider: Underworld without mentioning the game's predecessor, Tomb Raider: Legend, and to a lesser degree, Tomb Raider Anniversary. These three games now as a trilogy, with Legend and Underworld being completely interwoven and Anniversary serving as back story. These 3 games are also the new Tomb Raider games developed by Crystal Dynamics, and serve as kind of a re-focusing for the franchise.Underworld picks up precisely where Legend left off. Lara is continuin...

Still good, but the franchise probably needs a third reboot now. 0

The original Tomb Raider is still one of my favourite games of all time and the recent PSN rerelease showed me that the original is still pretty much playable thirteen years after the fact. I feel that the series dropped off significantly with every game from there onwards, hitting absolute rock bottom with Angel of Darkness. Tomb Raider Legend was an absolute breath of fresh air and was one of my favourite games of the 360's launch year. Anniversary kept up that level of quality and kept me gid...

Lara is back to fight her nemesis: The Camera! 0

In 1996, gamers everywhere became infatuated with Tomb Raider. The mix of puzzle solving, gunplay, and its sexy female protagonist, Lara Croft,  pushed the game (and especially Lara herself) into an iconic status. Twelve years later, Lara is still kicking (and jumping) with her latest entry in the series, Tomb Raider Underworld, for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. While the core gameplay mechanics haven’t aged gracefully over the years, Tomb Raider Underworld is still a satisfying adventure for ...

    Tomb Raider getting old? 0

Lara Croft returns in the sequel to Tomb Raider: Legend. While she has some new moves and improved visuals, you’ll find yourself frustrated after Lara falls to her death again trying the simplest of actions. The story picks up where Legend left off. Lara is still on her quest to determine what happened to her mother following the clues she finds in her travels to various locales ranging from underwater temples to massive jungle environments. Though the story is standard fare, it is told in a re...

Lara makes her move to the nex gen cosoles 0

First of all this is probably the 4 TR game I have played over the years. I was really looking forward to this title and had very high expectations after seeing screenshots and reading previews.  I have enjoyed the TR series and have been  pleased with the past editions of Anniversary, and Legend. Developer Crystal Dynamics has been  somewhat good for the series, but at its attempt to move the game forward is stuck in neutral.  This game has a sense it was built for the fans and not gamers. Ther...
