I'm just taking a stab in the dark, but my money is on this "reboot" will suck.
The next "reboot" will be poor to mediocre as well.
The next "reboot" after that will be the good one.
The sequel will be pretty good too.
The third one will suck.

Tomb Raider Reboot To Be Revealed In Game Informer
" @Abyssfull said:Ive always seen the news on GB as more of an archive thing rather than an up-to-date source. If you want that then go to kotaku.I personally think that it doesn't matter that much. We get most of the big announcements from Twitter or Facebook anyway. And does couple hours of delay really matter? And most important thing to keep in mind, Giant Bomb is not a news heavy web site. We get only a few news about games here (no lawsuits, no business things, etc.). There are lots of sites (blogs like Kotaku for example) for gamers who need to catch news as it happens. And I don't think there are many gamers that are visiting only one website about videogames and nothing else. Not trying to sound preachy or too defensive, I just don't think that Giant Bomb's couple hours delay is such a big deal. Giant Bomb is a different website. "" @animathias said:
I don't begrudge them for having the users beat them to the punch with gaming news and updates as of course small team bleh bleh blah, but with how long it can take for them catch on is a little silly. Sometimes it's days before GB happen to take notice. "" @Abyssfull said:
" @Fontan said:It's the sad truth when there's only a couple of guys living normal lives that post the news here. Back when I was writing for an awesome but not-so-top-tier website, much of the front page stuff came from forums and other sites. It goes on the front door so the folks who don't browse the forums daily and don't traverse to other gaming news sites often still get the news (don't say they don't exist. Since I left SG, I only go to GB but I barely browse the forums, so we are out there.) I never would have seen this otherwise. "Most of the news/trailers posted on GB is already on the forums hours before, more often than not. "" Wasn't this posted a few hours ago on the forums? "
I wish publishers could develop some new IPs instead of constantly trying to resell us the last generation of games with shiny new graphics. Does anyone really care about Lara Croft at this point? Tomb Raider 2 was fantastic, don't get me wrong - but Ms Croft has already demonstrated multiple times her inability to keep up with the current generation of hardware.

"I'm barely able to stifle a yawn when I hear the words "Lara Croft" on a video games site. It's like a Pavlovian response. Still, on the off chance, why the hell not? It may actually turn out to be interesting.
Maybe it's going to try to be Uncharted for people without a PS3 ala Dante's Inferno being God of War for people without a PS3. Really seems like the only place to take this series that makes any sense.

huh. That's not really how I would picture a young Laura Croft looking. Ship wrecked or not, I don't understand why she would have a mullet :/
I've never been super into the Tomb Raider series so this isn't very exciting news for me. Maybe it will be good, though.
I really don't understand why they are "rebooting" this series again. Legend and Anniversary were both great games, but whatever. As long as most of the game's focus is on climbing and platforming, I'll be happy. Wouldn't mind if they threw in a decent camera as well.
I'm intrigued even knowing the success rate of gritty reboots. Since this is supposed to be her first adventure I am kind of glad they did not go back to the pig-tailed teen Lara Croft from The Last Revelation.
I enjoyed Legend and Underworld more than most people seemed to, even Anniversary was kind of cool. I am surprised they are straight up calling this 'Tomb Raider' after they dropped the title entirely for Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light. I assume this means tombs will be raided?
Added : "There are brutal deaths in the game this time. One is described as a deranged man stabbing Lara in the chest and then closing her eyes after she's dead. Another includes a boulder falling on her leg to trap her before another falls and crushes her head. " Oh dear. "What the fuck? That sounds awesome.
" Is this like the 5th time that they've tried to reboot the series and give her a "new look"? "I'm not sure why people keep saying this. The only reboot has been when Crystal Dynamics took over with the Legend series. Unless you count the download title, but that was more of a spin-off and was supposed to be completely separate.

It's an open world survival game, so I'd guess not. Which is definitely a good thing. Uncharted was essentially Tomb Raider lite to begin with. Less puzzles and exploration, more combat/action scenes.
The only thing that needs a re-boot are the controls. Assassins Creed and the last 2 Prince of Persia games took what Tomb Raider tried to do and nailed it. If Crystal Dynamics still can't at least attempt to emulate them this time round they should really knock Tomb Raider on the head.
" I really, really, hope it doesn't turn out to be just an Uncharted clone. "Hmm, how else can they make it then? A modern adventure game that takes place in exotic locations and features basic platforming and traversal stuff will end up feeling like Uncharted. She does have a bow though so that could be different... I've never played a Tomb Raider game except on a playstation in a hotel though so I cant' even remember how those games are supposed to play.
I don't know about the PoP series, but the AC games definitely have some kinks in the controls. They've gotten better with each game, but I don't think they've "nailed it" just yet." And also, the platforming is completely different in the original TR games and the AC series. Not very comparable, IMO.
I don't get why people are hating on the new Lara look. She looks gorgeous. Well, except for all the dirt and the busted lip. It's right on the corner too so you know it hurts like a son of a bitch. The way that string for the bow and arrow(?) she has on is sitting makes it look like she may have a boob reduction though. Not necessarily bad, I always liked her butt more. :)
" Also, I'm not sure why people are accusing the Tomb Raider series of rebooting constantly. It's had one reboot as far as I know and that wasn't even a proper, full start over. Maybe you idiots should actually make sure you know what you're talking about before spouting nonsense. You look like morons. "The Lara Croft downloadable title was technically billed to some degree as a "reboot" as well, you idiot.
Even a total douchebag can remember that the terrible Angel of Darkness game was definitely called a reboot, though, with a completely new style and different take on the character and gameplay. Just because it completely failed, doesn't mean it shouldn't count, moron.
See how using personal attacks makes you look like a dick and completely invalidates any point you try to make? Yeah, try to avoid it in the future.
Haven't tried a Tomb Raider game since 2, which I sorta liked for a while until I got stuck at the second level.
I kinda promised myself at one point that I would play another installment in this series if one turned out good. But Anniversary and Legend, which were reportedly so, sorta just came and went without me anyway.
Never liked the character, but if this game turns out good, I'll consider it.
" So is this just a action-adventure game that's not good enough to stand on it's own, so it gets the Tomb Raider name? "looks like it's going to be a survival game, not action adventure.
" @Chop said:Angel of Darkness was most definitely not a reboot, it continued the story from the original games. Like I said earlier, the only time the series has been rebooted is when Crystal Dynamics took over with the Legend series." The Guardian of Light could be considered a reboot, but it didn't actually reboot the story. It still fit into the Legend/Underworld style but was meant to be more of a side game/spin off. Hence them dropping the TR title from it.
The reboot here seems completely unnecessary though, as there was nothing wrong with the story and characters that were set up in Legend and since this is a prequel there wouldn't need to be too many connections to those games anyway. Just seems a shame as we'll likely lose Amanda (who would have been great, considering this is multiplayer and it would be before her massive emo turn) and everything else good Crystal Dynamics brought previously.
