I don't know why I do it, but I always keep an eye on the player count on Steam whenever a game I'm interested in is released. It might not be a good approximation of the sales numbers, but at least it feels good when the small players beats games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2. I hope this means Torchlight 2 will at least least do ok.

When did Tourchlight 2 become a small player? It is one of the more talked about games on many websites. Course its going to do well!

I like to take that number and x4 it. Not everyone plays at peak hours and the game is sold globally. Taking all that into account, if it is at the top of the list or even in the stop 10 did pretty good.

Haha, I too also keep an eye on that, and when I see the same 10 fucking games on the top 10 everyday, I wonder why anyone else bothers. Not that it wasn't going to do well, but nice to see it up there! Now to start playing again...

In comparison, Runic Games is a small developer. But I guess the hype for Torchlight 2 have been good.

Torchlight 1 sold over a million on Steam. That game really took off. People are really excited about Torchlight 2 especially after Diablo 3 disappointed. I've played it for 4 hours straight today and I already tell you it's better than D3. It's going to do just fine, maybe it'll break 2 million.

The important part of that picture is that Dota 2 is still dominating everyone. I think on the release weekends Dota 2 is eclipsed by other games, but pretty much every other day its sitting up there 5-20k players above the next closest game.

That said. Torchlight 2 is doing great, considering its Day 1 and only $20, I bet it will be much higher come this weekend.

Coming straight from Torchlight 1, it's immediately apparent how much more fun Torchlight 2 is.

On the front page, you can click on the "Gamers Online" graph (under "Community Activity"). Scroll down a bit and you see the "Top games by current player count".

I was away from my computer this summer so no D3, but now that I am back and all the patches are in, its absolutely amazing again! I don't think I have room for torchlight 2, might change my mind according to the reviews.

I pre-ordered it in June, glad it's finally out. Only played about 5 minutes though.

On a side note, more people are playing CS and CS:S than CS:GO?

@alexl86: I think CS:GO is rubbing players the wrong way. Granted, CS:source was the same way for quite a while.

I know Torchlight 1 did good but I wasn't sure that the genre was big enough for two games in such short time. But, yeah, Diablo 3 burned out quickly.

Can't wait to get home and start playing.
